With every gen comes the rise and fall of genres. This all depends on how well old and new developers adapted to the last generation tech showing signs of growth with newer hardware and a broad understanding of their market appeal. Sometimes newer stories are told with less gameplay some have less story and more gameplay and few have been lucky to excel at both. So...what genres do you think will dominate? Last gen we witnessed the domination of JRPG's in the west on the Playstation only for them to fall into mediocrity this generation until the end of this generation where signs of life were shown. Sports titles have taken a beating this generation as well. First Person Shooters have only gotten stronger as Battlefield, Halo and COD have seen record sales this generation compared to last gen. With the advent of online third person shooters have found a place in the spotlight in the multiplayer realm.

MOBA

Dear God, please not. MOBA are just terrible IMO. Quite a lot of good JRPGs and RPGs have been announced or released lately though, I hope we will see more of them in the current gen :D

The FPS Lite-RPG.

Everything is going to have RPG elements and the FPS will benefit the most. With next gen VR tech like the Oculus Rift the FPS will be the most immersive genre and with RPG elements woven in nothing will rival the experience.

I think we will continue to see floods of First Person Shooters coming. Jrpgs seem to be getting people´s attentions again, but I doubt that they will achieve good sales on the West, as they sell in Japan

Depends on how you define dominating? Selling the most between all titles combined: then platformers (you didn't even listed them). Mario 2D, Mario 3D, Rayman, Sonic and all the other stuff should sell millions. Platformers are already in lead with NSMBU, Trine 2 and the upcoming Rayman.

If it is the sheer number of games then probably RPGs (there is no real difference between JRPGs and WRPGs, this distinction makes no sense).

Platformers.

Let me dream goddamn it!!!.

We went from a few Gens of J-RPG and Platformer Dominance to a complete FPS dominated Generation
But this only happened cause an American Company entered the console battle and they bought a lot of Japanese Games for the early years what damaged their reputation a lot.
Right now where people are horny for games like Xenoblade,NiNoKuni and some others it looks like a slow shift again. But those names are to small even if they display high quality.
I think J-RPGs could get back to at least an eye to eye battle with FPS in the Next Gen > IF Going back to the roots.

I actually think action/adventure like Uncharted and the Last of Us. But people can also see those games as a different genre. I think this because of cinematics and story based games and people will get tired of FPS games I think. So perhaps 4 major FPS games next gen. Halo 5, CoD, BF4 and perhaps KZ4. I think that we probably also are going to see some new great RPG games.

My heart tells me JRPG's and WRPG but my mind tells me Shooters will reign supreme again next gen (in terms of sales).
