You're just gonna get disappointed unless they heavily change the game.

Well, I've watched 5 hours of walkthrough on YouTube and I think it looks like a better JRPG than FFXIII and FFXIII-2 combined. It has like 10 HD towns and loads of optional areas that can explore in any order. You can also have like 20 party members during battle. Epic! The story may be garbage, but that's not what I play JRPGs for.

Beeing better than FFXIII is not dificult. The battles are a bit random in how they work, the towns have loads screens all over the place, the story i dont know cause i got way too bored to keep going.

JRPG's are totally about the story though. Thats why they tend to be linear.

Seriously, you're not missing anything. You have a PC, i think the game is out for PC aswell. Get that version and you'll see. You will waste less money aswell.

Funny enough, I actually don't play JRPGs for the story. I play them for the sense of adventure and exploration and the battle systems and character customization systems. That's why I love FFXII so much despite some people hating it because they didn't like the story. Heck, my avatar is the most hated male character in 3D Final Fantasy.

Anyway, I'm a huge fan of Monster Hunter and that has absolutely zero story. Actually, I think Super Mario Bros. on the NES has more story than Monster Hunter. LOL! I think I will enjoy The Last Remnant as long as it has a vast world to explore, a deep battle system and loads of customization option and items to collect.

I would like to try t on PC but I found out it's Steam exclusive. I hate Steam. As a result, it's PS3 or bust.

sounds like you should be playing skyrim

I've put 200 hours into it. I'm still waiting for the JRPG equivalent to that in world scale. FFXII came close but isn't even a quarter as big as Skyrim.

I don't think The Last Remnant will ever hit PS3 at this point. It's better than FFXIII, but FFXIII is terrible so that's not a good barometer for the game. If the game had been a hit on 360, I'm sure the game would have been released PS3 by now. However it wasn't hit, with the technical issues being the games biggest problem.

The 360 version was a technical mess. You could see that there was really good game underneath but you had to look past lots of technical flaws. The spotty frame rate, texture pop in, and long load times. The battle system and progression system were you unique. Like FFXIII, how much you enjoy TLR will depend on your view of the battle system, because you spend so much time there. Also like FFXIII, the world is full of lore and that doesn't get fully explored. TLR does a better job of tying the lore to the narrative, but again that isn't saying much because the comparison is being made to FFXIII.

If you have a capable PC, get the PC version. It fixed virtually all the technical problems of the 360 game. Not only that, it added features to the game. New Game Plus, Removal of the "unique" unit limitation, and "Turbo Mode" being the coolest of the features. Battles in The Last Remnant could take a lot of time. Especially if you were underpowered against more powerful enemy units. The Turbo feature was essentially a fast forward button, I only used it during transitions. Strategy in TLR is paramount. New Game plus was great, because TLR has a wealth of sidequests that are miss-able. Given the length of the campaign you didn't want to start from scratch. Lastly in the 360 version you were limited in the number of unique units you could fill your battle party with. So you'd have all of these cool characters stuck on the side lines while you lined your party out with generic units. Not the PC version. While you can still use generic units, there is no point. You can fill all 18 slots with generals. Granted there was trade off. The enemies in the PC version were strengthened and given more HP because of this.

Basically TLR, on PC, was what you used to expect from Square Enix RPG. You had a unique setting, art style, long main quest, tons of sidequests, multiple cities, and optional bosses that made the last boss (who isn't a cake walk) seem like a wuss. TLR was a throw back in many ways. The game actually had a difficulty level. Lately, most SE RPGs just don't seem to have any challenge to them. I literally could not beat the last boss on my first 360 play through and went back and started over gain. The PC version is real blast. Especially if you've played the 360 version first. A lot annoyances from the 360 version aren't in the PC version.

I know you're upset right now so I'll pretend you didn't say that...

The PS3 version? I don't think this is gonna happen. The Last Remnant uses Unreal Engine 3 and has frame-rate issues on 360. It would perform even worse on PS3. It's because of those fucking bureaucrats that cancelled games remain listed sometimes.

It's also untrue that this is an Steam exclusive on PC. You can buy it at Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001T9OC1O . Of course, Steam is much better than Games for Windows – LIVE, and has it on sale right now. Seriously, how can you hate Steam? Nobody hates Steam, dude...

The PC version is the definitive one. If yours can handle it, go for it.

I played the PC version of this game and it is great, i didn't see any bugs or glitches while playing it. It isn't the best JRPG ever released, but it's a solid release from Square-Enix and on par with their quality releases on PS2 gen. It's a much, much better game than Final Fantasy XIII. I really didn't cared much for the story while playing, but the combat system was awesome and the dungeon designs reminded me of when you could actually explore the environment in JRPGs, even if the game doesn't have a "proper" overworld. Also, the soundtrack is amazing.

I so wish they made another one of these games. Stop talking about it!

It was a JRPG for the PS3/360/PC that was made internally at Square Enix Japan using Unreal Engine 3. It was the first game internally developed by Square Enix Japan this gen. It was released worldwide on 360 in November 2008 and then worldwide on PC in March 2009. The PS3 version has yet to be released. It is believed that Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix, said in June 2009 that a PS3 version will not be released as the 360 version never sold well. However, despite this, the PS3 version is still listed as upcoming on the official Square Enix website. They have even been moving from year to year (2009 to 2010 to 2011 to 2012 to now 2013) instead of deleting it off the website. As a result, people think they still have plans to release the game on PS3 at some point.
