Forums - Nintendo - Wii owners, is it our fault that the Wii U isn't getting better third party support?

I think I just saw someone call No More Heroes shit... Honestly, it's my favourite new IP this gen just above Mass Effect. It has many flaws, but I absolutely love how crazy the bosses and story were.

What other game this gen had you nod off on a subway, only to throw you into a random 2D SHMUP game? or a batman lookalike that transforms into the Stay Puft marshmallow man?

Then explain Umbrella Chronicles. Both it and RE4 sold well, both with test games from Capcom, and were Wii owners rewarded with a real RE game? Nope, just Darkside Chronicles.

Incorrect. We also got Dead Rising: Chop 'Til You Drop. People always seem to forget that game existed.

Lucky bastards. Wish I could.

niche or shit, i said. No More Heroes was lovely, but niche. I submit as evidence the fact that Grasshopper manufacture was overjoyed with how much the game sold overseas, being their biggest hit ever at the time.

Clearly they're a studio that aims low

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Ive always put a 2-way blame on it.

Firstly, Nintendo. The way they advertised the Wii. The games they released for that audience. The focus from Nintendo was 80% on the new casual market. Mums, little girls, grandmas and grandads. The market for these games exploded, and a cheap crappy game could sell a Million. Which leads me to...

Secondly, Third Parties. They saw the Wii as a profit machine to fuel the big HD Blockbuster titles on PS360. A little party game could sell 100k units and make a tidy profit, so when they see games like Carnival Games hitting big milestones then the choice becomes obvious. They were blind to efforts like the RE4 port, and let the Wii have spinoff titles instead of the serious big titles, again due to the profits.

The consumer cant really be blamed, because the Wii consumer bought games. Lots of games. Its just the type of games they bought werent necessarily the blockbuster... They were the preschool party game.

Its a double edged sword. With huge success they also segregated a huge part of the market.

I agree with everything but the bolded. THey were not blind, they just didnt care. Games like RE are still way more expensive to produce than something like Just Dance, HD or not. And the JD game would sell way more. Simple math, which game would you rather make for Wii, it wont be RE. They didnt get big titles because the damn Wii couldnt run them, its that simple. No wonder you never saw a AC game for Wii but a butt load of JD games. There not gonna spend money to downgrade a game on Wii knowing that most people are just going to get the PS360/pc version anyway, it would just be a waste of money.  And i wish people stop using RE4 as some shining example, its not. It was a BUDGET port released early in the systems life. It was just Capcom trying to squeeze more money out of the game, it wasnt even like it was the best selling version.

But it showed the market was there. They could have made Resident Evil: Revelations (for instance) for the Wii, and it probably would have sold better than the 3DS game. The market is clearly there, and people like that experience better on a console; ergo, more money for Capcom.

RE4 proved that an audience was there, which was the point of Carl's post.

RE4 didnt prove anything, again it was BUDGET game released early on in the console's life, how well would it have done had it been full price. And ill see your RE4 and raise you a No More Heroes, Madworld, Conduit, etc. There are alot less success stories out there. Just for the sake of argument lets say there was an audience, that audience still isnt as big as the one on HDs and not even close to the Dance, exercise demographic on WIi, and that is my point. Why a smaller market when you can support a bigger one? And cheaper at that?

Then explain Umbrella Chronicles. Both it and RE4 sold well, both with test games from Capcom, and were Wii owners rewarded with a real RE game? Nope, just Darkside Chronicles.

THere is nothing to explain, because they were not test games, dont know where people get that from. Show me where Capcom said those were test games. All I saw was a budget game and on rail game that as you said did well and the followed it up with...another on rail game. Of course! it makes sense. If I make a dance game and it does well im not going to follow it up with a fighting game it makes no sense

Its not the fans fault third party titles haven't been prevalent on Nintendo consoles since the SNES. It's nintendo catching up to third party expectations. They've given up on playing hard ball after Sony entered the gaming industry and Microsoft just made it worse in vying for the third party interest. Most third parties will want to have a PC/two console focus rather than supporting four platforms. Only the largest publishers will allow that. Nintendo will stay in that position unless they try to muscle the competition out of it and I doubt they even care to do that any longer.

its not Nintendo's fault. Well its is. Sometimes I think that 3rd party games can't compete with the 1st party games. Since Nintendo is a HUGE company they can make and publish tons of games every year and that kinda leaves the 3rd party games in the dust. thats just what i think though.

3rd parties- "Dude we need more power to make good game for the Wii"

Ninty-"Super Mario Galaxy"

Yeah I can totally see why Nintendo kinda left others in the dust. Some 3rd party were good yes, but most played those on the HD twins.

Okami, No more heroes were an exception though.

i said it was shit. i played the game and it was one of the most boring games ive played in years. It was like FF13 but for the hack and slash genre. THe combat was bland, the story was like a subpar anime, which is what it should have been IMHO. I could see why the game sold the way it did. Thats just My take if anyone liked it good for them

You gave me a link to the Capcom forum page, which is just a bunch of fans talking back and forth. How about a link to an ACTUAL Capcom representitive, fairly high up saying those were test games, or am I missing something?

I did my part. Out of my 73 Wii games, 15 are Nintendo and 58 are third party. I had a lot of fun and tried a lot of different things.
