Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is silent for a reason

360 mainly did that on the back of the Kinect though. Without the Kinect PS3 would have over taken it a long time ago.

No, apparently it was Gears of War that started the 360's upward trend.

I'm talking about 2006, kinect was 2010.

That is true. But 360 got all the 3rd party support and also Gears, which was a huge new IP system seller, in its first year. Wii U most likely won't get nearly as much 3rd party support which is why Nintendo have to do something. Even just a hint at a new Smash Bros or a new 3D Mario or a WiiU pokemon or something might be enough to stimulate sales a bit.

Gears was out in Nov 2006 though, 360 came out in Nov 2005. Was 3rd party multi-plat support so great for 360 early on? I don't remember it being that way.

Nintendo is silent because its in scramble mode to try and secure 3rd party games from developers who are currently wavering on the system.

They are most likely also trying to get demos ready for E3 so the next gen systems do not steal all the spotlight. This is bad because rush nintendo does not put out good quality games (even though they still sell decently),

They are wasting their time in developing and expanding miiverse. Moving the miiverse platform from the Wii U to the 3DS, mobile and PC doesn't make sense.

First and foremost, it dilutes Nintendo own brand of having unique features only present on Nintendo platforms, something I thought Nintendo would never go away from.

For the 3DS, miiverse works best if there is a constant connection to the internet, being able to move between application is its strong point, the 3DS is not constantly connected, and if it was, would be a big battery drainer for a system that is already power deficient.

For the mobile space and PC, you are going up against establish mediums like facebook and twitter. As these markets mature, people want to have less social media logins so they are not spreading their information thin.

QFT!

Unlike some companies Nintendo doesn't try and hype games several years before release or like *cough* S-E over half a decade with Final Fantasy..

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

I think Nintendo's being TOO secretive and that it's hurting them. They should at least show us ONE game that takes advantage of the graphical power of the Wii U. A hint, a tease, something to get us hyped and psyched about. Nintendo needs to learn how to build momentum.

NSMBU and NintendoLand is a great start, but they have to show us something else. Those games probably have good legs - NSMBU certainly will have - and that's because people aren't rushing out to buy the Wii U just for those games; they're complementary games you get along side other games.

I agree with you here. If Nintendo showed just a little teaser of a graphically impressive game we wouldn't have so many people claiming that the Wii U is underpowered.

so nintendo is going to secure the core out from under MSony during their year head start by keeping silent of what they are doing so that the majority of their head start appears to be barren of any games let alone good games?

..nintendo really doesn't get the core if that's their plan.

By the time the PS4 and 720 launch, the assumption is that the PS4 and 720 will have little to warrant a purchase, that's the trend from the PS2, PS3, xbox and 360.

The theory is that when that time comes, what thelaststarfighter said would come true.

@JGarret. I know. But when the Wii suddenly launched what was it 6 months sooner than expected, we were happy. Then, some big games came out and we didn't have to wait much (3DLand, OoT3D, Revelations from Capcom).

then i'll have to rebuttle starfighter's theory.

the core are like little marketing machines.  the core, by definintion, are really into video games and talking about video games.  right now the core have nothing good to say.  the core is saying things like wiiU is power wise a last (aka current) gen machine.  they are saying wiiU isn't getting any games (read: GTAV, bioshock infinate, dark souls 2, ect.). that talk is was nintendo fans like to refer to as "word of mouth" and right now the conversation is bad.

holding out on all the good stuff just isn't a good idea, especially if they have a lot to show.  they need to give people something to change that conversation for the positive.  if not, six months of bad (word of mouth) press will be very very damaging.  first impressions are hard to reverse.

Nintendo should reveal something soon enough, pre-E3 that is. Otherwise sales are going to drop to Vita levels. Not far from it even such a short time from release.

To be fair, the 360 didn't have an enormous trend early on in its life. It still managed to build a nice base years 2 onwards.

The 360 consistently sold more than 50k every week of January though... Worse it ever sold in early 2006 was 61k in February. Can't say the same for Wii U so far...

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

With no Japanese support.

Well, that too. It's time to face it: Nintendo is failing miserably at marketing their new console, and being secretive won't help them right now.
