Zelda is the most popular after Pokemon but SSB is a game that not even Nintendo fans enjoy. But i think we all are forgeting one major one????

"Wii" as in Wii Fit, Wii Fit+, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Resorts!!!

If that dont count, Maybe DK, also if MK counts on its own then its # 1 after pokemon


I would argue that Mario Kart has become bigger than Pokemon,and even Main Mario games.



This is true cuz your looking at Mario Kart Wii! Now look at pokemon red/blue, same sales (close), now MK DS the second best MK, now look at gold/silver, Same sales (close), Next MK doesn't compare with pokemon D/P, B/W, or R/S. Not only that but the remakes made over 10mil each. Also they have 5 different third installments! Pokemon>MK. But MK is growing very big no doubt


But this current gen Mario Kart slammed Pokemon in sales.



Same can be said the other way around, and beside take off pokemon blue/red and gold/silver then take away MK wii and MK DS, now your left with pokemon>>>>>MK in terms of sales. MK7 will have the longer legs but Pokemon X/Y will beat it in sales during 2013/2014 then MK7 will take it in 2015 imo



I don't see how it can be said the other way around. I mean Mario Kart Wii outsold both the main pokemon games this gen combined. Mario Kart has really grown and proven itself as Nintys top dog. I can see X/Y outselling MK7 this year. Then MK 7 will retake it again in in late 2014.

Between NSMBWii, DK returns, and Kirby Returns, i find Kirby the most appealing. DK might be by far the hardest, but Kirby second run (hard mode) is pretty difficult! I just love the gameplay and OST of the game. Also SSB plays like it cuz of the same creator! Kirby is great, my bro favorite character got introduced here as well. Bandana Dee!

It really isn't "simple as that".

For this generation (and with Wii Series' "small" amount of titles) I would say it's the biggest Nintendo Franchise.

However, Mario is the biggest franchise overall. Just for you I'll remake my list:

1.) Mario 2.) Wii Series 3.) Pokemon

Mario has sold more this generation, and has a larger amount of games.

The Wii series has 7 games in it.

Wii Sports
Wii Sports Resorts
Wii Fit
Wii Fit Plus
Wii Play
Wii Party
Wii Music

Wii Music isn't much of a success. Wii Play is the tech demo for the controller, and Wii Play is easily negated by Mario Party 8.

Your claim is - essentially - that Wii Sports and Wii Fit, along with their two sequels,  are larger than the entire Mario franchise for the 7th generation.

 

Putting the Wii series above Pokemon for lifetime is just as insane. Let me point this out. For the GBA, Pokemon sold three times as much as the highest selling non-Pokemon title. From slightly before the launch of the GBC and up to the launch of the DS, Nintendo's handhelds practically were the Pokemon machines.

Add to that the fact that Pokemon has sold more than the Wii series, and it's absolutely ludicrous to put a franchise that lasted for 4 years as bigger than the franchise that can easily be claimed to have been kept Nintendo alive, relevant and profitable for the better part of a decade.


Its pretty apparent you haven't checked the sales. Mario Party has not negated Wii Play lol, Wii Play is pushing like 30 mil, while Mario Party has like what 10? The Wii series has only sold less thanks to Mario being on both handheld and home consoles.

Well, the Wii series was massive this past gen and i'm sure that's why the new console stuck with the name - because they wanted to continue the series. It's too hard to tell yet if it has a lot of brand value as a series. If Wii U Fit is a big hit and sells another 20million, then clearly it is at least the second biggest franchise. If it bombs then i would look at zelda. it's popular, and it commands more respect among critics and dedicated gamers than any other nintendo series. It raises respect for nintendo software in general.

Yes, Kirby games have the most addictive soundtracks! One time I listened to Gourmet Race for two hours straight.

Not so. For most of the 2000s we got a new game every year. There's been a bit of a dry spell since Spirit Tracks was released because of increasing development times. Nintendo seems to be training up Grezzo to reduce the time between releases again.

But yeah, Grezzo is a talented studio.  I'm betting they're currently working on remaking Majora's Mask for 3DS just as they did with Ocarina of Time.  The perfect game to spike US sales.  We love 3D Zelda over here.  We'll know if it's happening at E3.

I left Skyward out because I was referring to the decade 2000-2009. Guess that wasn't really clear.

And personally I think it's more likely Grezzo is working on a new Four Swords game for 3DS eShop.

Mario Kart is its own franchise and its much bigger than Zelda.

SNES -- 2nd best selling title is Super Mario Kart (after Donkey Kong Country) non-bundled
N64 -- 2nd best selling title is Mario Kart 64 (after Super Mario 64)
GCN -- 2nd best selling title is Mario Kart: Double Dash (just a hair below Smash Bros. Melee)
Wii -- 2nd best selling title after Wii Sports

The "Mario" franchise is really several distinct seperate brands IMO: 

2D Mario platformers

3D Mario platformers

Mario Kart franchise

Mario RPGs

Mario Party

Mario sports spinoffs

Calling them all one singular franchise is stupid, some of these games are nothing alike.
