@S.T.A.G.E: Well yes, adults were buying it for their kids. No matter how you twist it, or would want it to be otherwise, that's what they do. That's why the gaming forums are full of teenagers with PS3's and 360's.

Not only are they seen as something that kids do, the marketing itself only supports the image. Sony's marketing department haven't yet breached out of marketing the PS brand to others than teenagers. With their marketing it's really hard to reach grown-ups. Then again, if they were marketing the brand to grown-ups, they would be losing their core market. Maybe you're not quite getting it, but the core market for videogames are immature males, with the vast majority of them being teenagers.

I do agree Sony bought the DVD price down with PS2 and BD price down with PS3, but let's face it; who cares. That has really nothing to do with to with the subject.

I am not twisting anything. The PS increased the amount of adult active gamers. The utility the PS2 provided created a center hub for the family. It wasn't until the Playstation that the gaming console became the sole hub of the living room and thats why Microsoft came in as well. Its not a gimmick that wears out its welcome like what Nintendo does, but rather something that adds to the gameplay that people will not get tired of that they do outside of gaming (Stable utility). This is why videogames were taken seriously as serious tech because it because the all in one device no different than an Iphone. Everyone saw the writing on the wall once the major tech and software commpanies joined the gaming industry and took the favor from Nintendo. They changed the way people see videogames. I have aboslutely no idea what you are talking about and I wish you would look up the age of the average gamer because its been going between 25-35 for over a decade. They are growing up man. Nintendo and Sega raised a lot of gamers in the late eighties to early 90's and many switched to the Playstation and in the 2000's the Xbox.

Gamecube was so bad that it would success only if it would be the only console availble.

Nah, cubes are so last gen. It's all about wonky looking CPUs.

WTF? Nintendos core dwindled in the N64 when all of the series developers switched to Sony. Its far harder to pinpoint who Sony was attracting with DVD players than Wii consoles. DVD Players mostly attracted adults to gaming consoles. The Teens were mostly there already.

@S.T.A.G.E: The average gamer age is what it is due to surveys being made to people above 16 yo, and secondly, a gamer in the surveys is considered someone who occasionally plays flash games on their PC's, and other multifunctioning devices, aswell as someone playing their consoles 24/7. These surveys tell the same thing as Nintendo's success with Wii and DS. They were simply breaking out of the core market to provide games for people who wanted to play games. Had Wii and DS been so successful, if the adult crowd had already been catered by the competitors? No.

Anyway, the average gamer age is kind of a different subject than where have all the bought consoles gone.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Just as a note on the "kiddie" and "mature" argument ...

While everyone saw the Gamecube as a "kiddie" console, when shopping for games at stores like Futureshop the people browsing the games were primarily people over the age of 20 who grew up playing Nintendo games. In contrast, while everyone sees the XBox 360 as a mature system, when shopping at similar stores I fear that everyone assumes I'm a peadophile because I'm surrounded by 9 to 13 year old boys.

This isn't to say that these samples are representative of the userbases, but the assumption that "Mature" rated games attract adults while "Everyone" rated games attract children is wrong.

On a side one, I remember reading an article on IGN or Gamespot years ago where they interviewed a former mobster with his son. While it was only a small portion of the interview they showed off Grand Theft Auto and Animal Crossing to the mobster and the former mobster was far more interested in Animal Crossing than Grand Theft Auto (and this embarassed his son).

Kids are always going to try and play every game they can get their hands on. Gamestop workers aren't going to stop the kids from buying the games if their parents give their approval. If parents stopped giving approval, GTA and COD would see their sales plummet. Parents dont care anymore, which is why the kids are so loud and desensitized. They let the games raise their kids which is why people on Youtube always record loud little kids playing these games. When I was a kid I would've never had access to a COD.

It would probably sell slightly more than the Gamecube 1, at the cost of losing the entire casual support.

If it launced with an updated Wii Mote bundled, and NSMB I think the casuals would be appeased. Nintendo would simply push them to the back of the crowd like they did to their fans with the Wii.

Wii Sports 3 would get their attention more than NSMB, but yes that would help. The hype died down for the Wii though, so it looks like it ended up being a fad.
