No chance, considering PS2 outsold DS last year, the gap is probably around 3-4m. I'll be surprised if DS manages 1m shipped before it is discontinued.

Im surprised Sony never gave one final shipment number of PS2. Seems logical to do so.



Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

No it didn't. PS2 sold 2.92 million units based on Sony shipments and my calculations and DS did what 3.5 million?

PS2 currently has shipped 157.3 million, so if it's discontinued, then DS only needs to gain 3.03 million.

PS1 numbers here on VGC are wrong though. Official Sony numbers have it at 102.49m shipped. Assuming they all got sold to consumers eventually, that's the max. number of PS1 systems. Wii will definitely beat that, by the end of this year it's done. PS2 is likely now at (at least) 156m, since VGC can only track it when Sony puts out numbers every once in a while. It's still a stretch for DS, but I think it'll make it.

Anyway, this thread was indeed already posted.

VGC used to have that number, but they changed it. Do you have any clue why?

Aren't these consoles still selling in Brazil and other countries? Seems like a mistake to discontinue them for there, unless they have enough stock to supply them for awhile.

Pretty much 100% dead in the USA as I haven't found a new one outside of eBay for sometime. Keeping my eye on cowboom (pre-owned) for the $15 silver model to pop back up for my backup system.



It's just that simple.

They will provide final number when they completly stop shipping it. At the moment they are still shipping even if its just 300k per quarter.

Maybe they overshipped in those regions. Sales for PS2 aren't strong in regions like Brasil, but they are there. PS2 sold 2.92 million units last year.
