Thanks for the work, though this is a bloody awful list with some inarguable crap listed.

How in the world could this list disappoint you? It has 250 games on it! One had to have made you somewhat happy.

Five Zelda titles in top 20.

See! This is what I mean. OoT number one yet again. But looking at my thread on it you would think I was crazy!

Very good games on the list, but also some serious games that are missing and some are criminally too low. PC is especially under-represented, not that it's surprising given that this website is pretty damn console focused and has always been that way.

Is Ocarina really that good or is it one of those snowball phenomenons where it gets mentioned a lot as the best game of all time and then everyone lets that influence their own decision, which leads to more people mentioning it and after a few years it's just set in stone? Sort of like Shawshank Redemption on IMDB I guess.

PC was the big winner compared to last year, so you guys are getting there.

It's very true. Belive it or not, western games gained a lot more ground this year. It seems to me that JRPG and PlayStation fan participation stayed stagnant from last year, while every other fanbase increased. To see Halo 3 in the top 50 (on a site [in]famous for it's lack of Xbox fans), along with more Western games such as Assassin's Creed II (This one came out of nowhere) and Bioshock (really improved from last year) is proof that the larger voting population helped out (we had 46 participants last year, 71 this year). I hope this trend continues. As much as I love Japanese-developed games, there's some amazing Western-developed games that deserve our love.

Great jobs Smeags!

The Nintendo fans really showed up to vote this year! 8 of the top 10 are Nintendo games and the other 2 were exclusive on Nintendo consoles when released. Bit disappointed that the Deus Ex games, Half-Life 1/2, Tomb Raider and Dragon Age Origins weren't rated higher, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Surprised to see Dishonored in the Top 250. It was only released a few weeks before the lists were compiled so I don't think many who participated would have had a chance to play it. Goes to show how good the game is.

yeah I thought us putting it 1 and 4 (are they the same for each of us haha?) would make them go higher but :( zoh well.

Here's some other interesting things I've noticed:

  • Assassin's Creed II: This game came out of nowhere. I mean, I've always heard great things about the game, but I never imagined it was so beloved. The game was consistently posted in top 50 lists to where it made it all the way to #28. Very impressive for a game that was completely off my radar (and I've been doing this for three years now, so I had a pretty good idea of what games make the top 50).
  • Where's the Blizzard Love?: Other than WarCraft III (which deservedly earned its 44th spot), every other Blizzard game was down YoY. StarCraft, one of the most beloved and influential games... not in the top 50? Diablo II, a beloved classic... not in the top 100? WarCraft II not even in the top 250? Where's the Blizzard love guys?
  • Close Calls between Franchise Brothers: Mario Kart: Double-Dash!! beat Mario Kart Wii by two points. That's insanely close. Final Fantasy IX beat out Final Fantasy IV by only three points. Looks like we got ourselves a rivalry going on here!
  • Classic PS franchises: While the Final Fantasies and other PS JRPGs did well as usual, the other classic PlayStation franchises couldn't keep up in this marathon. I thought guys like Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Lara Croft, Sweet Tooth, Jak & Daxter, Ico, and Ratchet & Clank would have performed better. PlayStation fans still love Nathan Drake though... and Cole from inFamous is becoming a beloved star. I won't deny that this mixed with the lukewarm sales of Battle Royale have me thinking: Why isn't PlayStation's great gaming history more revered by PS fans?
  • It's about time: Sonic & Knuckles continues to climb the charts year after year. The game resides at the uper echelon of 2D Platforming, and gamrConnect is realizing this more and more each year. I'm proud of you guys.

How did the Splinter Cell games get on? I would have thought we had enough of a Microsoft/Sony fanbase for at least Chaos Theory to chart.

@Kantor

Up Your Arsenal only got 2 votes. :

As for Splinter Cell, three games in the franchise appeared (Splinter Cell, Chaos Theory, and Conviction). Of those, Chaos Theory performed the best... but still only received 2 votes. I guess there's some sort of unwritten VGChartz law that states you either love Metal Gear Solid or Splinter Cell, but not both...

If someone ever claims VGC is no longer dominated by Nintendo fans, I only have to point to this.

Here is my list with the VGC rank in parentheses. I do get brownie points for having Halo 1 right where VGC has it though.

I actually am quite suprised that Super Paper Mario appeared, even being in 136th. Take that haters!

I gave it #42 on my list.
