Forums - Sony - Can someone explain why people thought that Playstation All-Stars would sell millions of copies?

first of all, I think there was a larger consensus that the game would do just a little over a million.
second, I think the game will still get bundled or get PS+ treatment. I do not think sony is done with this franchise.

I believe I had expected it to clock in at 1-2 million myself.  There was over 100 people that expected it to do over 2 million.  I didn't mean to say ALL or MOST, just some people, and perhaps a decent number.

I love it how the sony defense force always put the failure of a game on advertising. Why do mario and halo really sell better then little big planet and killzone? Couldn't possibly be because they are better games could it?

I just love generic responses like this. especially while they mention other games unrelated to the topic.

but on topic. I think PS all stars is a prototype, I think most people are waiting until their favorite playstation character makes it into the game. All this is just speculation of course. I myself is waiting until they add more characters into the roster.

Dont get me wrong, i aint debating or anything but shouldn't they have put all these characters in since the beginning? I get DLC but come on! Go all out then later add DLC! They could of easily put Kat in the roster and many others (especially FF characters)! How come they couldn't be secret (bonus) characters unlocked in the game? Sometimes I think its unfair with DLC. Like Fire Emblem for 3DS! They put in the whole story and experience into the game! Then with their DLC we buy characters we know from previous generations of the series (with extra chapters separate from the main game)! Thats something i put money down for! But to each their own I suppose. Just wish they wouldn't be so greedy! NSMB2 pissed me off a little too with their DLC ($2.50 for a course pack[3 Stages])

Holiday seasons over now and i think its safe to say (without bundling) 1.25-1.5mil lifetime at this rate. This is still good either way, just looks bad when you compare it to SSB especially Brawl!

I think its obvious.

Super smash brothers sells millions for Nintendo, so they assumed it would magically do the same for Sony and give them a huge flagship series.

Obviously, that view failed to take into account that Sony's IP's arent as iconic as Nintendo's.
The only other company that would have a shot at doing a sucessfull smash brothers knock-off is SEGA.

I'm thinking most people that thought this would sell a lot was because those people thought that other PlayStation gamers cared as much about these characters like they themselves do.

I think in reality, a lot more Nintendo players are attached to the Nintendo characters than there are PlayStation players that are attached to PlayStation characters. Sadly, I think over 90% of PlayStation players just don't care and have no feelings towards any of the characters. Which is then the main problem for Sony to fix of course.

Also, strange that some of you never saw advertisement for this game. Here in Holland, we were bombarded with tv-ads and even posters at train stations and the like for the whole of November and December.

Would an Uncharted clone by Nintendo suddenly sell millions on a Nintendo platform?

Mario Adventure: Quest for the Lost Treasure Maps

I'd buy that .

you couldn't be more right. and yes, in germany there were a *lot* of tv-ads - it was horrible, though. It looked like a very lousy produced ad.

and when i look at

even i don't identify every character (by the way, croc wasn't only a psx-character, the game was released for saturn, too).

There has been virtually no mainstream advertisement for this game.  Supposedly there is a US commercial but I've never seen it (and I watch lots of TV).  Only people that know about this game are internet fan boys.

Most gamers (20+ million walmart video gamers that buys Call of Duty Black Ops 2 who are also completely unaware of the immense internet hate toward Call of Duty) have no awareness about this game.  (Most of my buddies are on xbox360 and only know few people on PS3) But literally none of my PS3 buddies even know that this game exist.

Why are you lying?

Clearly nobody knew this game existed...

Now we know that on top of music Sony bots their game trailers as well haha

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

People expect this game to be all about the legs not 1st month sales. Regardless 1m does not seem out of reach and with bundling I think 2m easy. People expect exclusives to sell really good all the time though, and their seems to be more retail for PS atm.

Why is Sony going to bundle All-Stars?  Companies bundles titles in order to go after a target niche for their console.  What target niche would Sony be going after to get console sales?

Local coop online play/ fighter / SSB crowd. Not only that this is a game that promotes a bunch of Sony IPs. It is also a new IP, so if they make the sequel then more people would have been exposed to the first one, so more sales for sequel. Anyways their is a multitude of reasons to bundle and not to bundle it, but I think it is more likely to be bundled then not.

I said 1 million LTD at best and I still hold on to it.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Sony fans thought that Sony characters would be a bigger sales point than Nintendo characters in a Smash Brothers imitation game. Obviously, they were very mistaken.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

There are plenty of characters that no one had a clue about that were in Super Smash Bros. I only used a couple when I was younger because of it, but being that it was a homage I got to know other characters. Same goes for Sony, but there is an underlying problem because even though they have known characters there is a bias. My feeling is that the game needed to beheavily bundled during the holidays season, but it wasnt. Motorstorm was bundled heavily in the beginning of the gen and sold four million copies. Playstation Allstars could've used the exposure.

Another issue is that final fantasy seven characters and crash were not added.
