Forums - Sony - Can someone explain why people thought that Playstation All-Stars would sell millions of copies?

I tried the beta for a bit, but really haven't played much of it.  So with that in mind, my sense is that this game isn't great.  It's a good game, but not a game that gets my $60 before other games this holiday like Far Cry 3, Halo 4, Borderland 2 with DLC, and Assassin's Creed 3.  There is only so much time and money that I can allocate to another video game...... But like I said before, I haven't played much, and I haven't played the released game yet.

hey every game has the chance of selling millions. it's not a matter of will. it's a matter of how long.

anyway. i predicted 500k-1m, but i don't think i posted in the thread

There has been virtually no mainstream advertisement for this game.  Supposedly there is a US commercial but I've never seen it (and I watch lots of TV).  Only people that know about this game are internet fan boys.

Most gamers (20+ million walmart video gamers that buys Call of Duty Black Ops 2 who are also completely unaware of the immense internet hate toward Call of Duty) have no awareness about this game.  (Most of my buddies are on xbox360 and only know few people on PS3) But literally none of my PS3 buddies even know that this game exist.

Why are you lying?

I still think that 2 million is doable, with constant DLC, lower pricepoint and bundling.

its just a little fighting game most of the ps3 audience dont give a shit about. it should sell maybe 3 million lifetime.

I just hope it sells enough somehow to get a sequel

Going into it I thought I wasnt going to like the game as the idea of building towards Supers without any ring outs sounded stupid to me.

But I was surprised and the game plays pretty darn great with every character feeling really different. Im actually pretty impressed with the mechanics. Theres stil a lot of other things that need work but the core gameplay is awesome

I love it how the sony defense force always put the failure of a game on advertising. Why do mario and halo really sell better then little big planet and killzone? Couldn't possibly be because they are better games could it?

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

I just love generic responses like this. especially while they mention other games unrelated to the topic.

but on topic. I think PS all stars is a prototype, I think most people are waiting until their favorite playstation character makes it into the game. All this is just speculation of course. I myself is waiting until they add more characters into the roster.

People expect this game to be all about the legs not 1st month sales. Regardless 1m does not seem out of reach and with bundling I think 2m easy. People expect exclusives to sell really good all the time though, and their seems to be more retail for PS atm.

Why is Sony going to bundle All-Stars?  Companies bundles titles in order to go after a target niche for their console.  What target niche would Sony be going after to get console sales?
