Forums - Sales - The Nintendo DS really IS the highest selling console of all time

TrunksWD (the guy who writes all the sales articles) has said that VGChartz DO still track the PS2.

So last week when people were saying "vgchartz haven't tracked the PS2 for years, it's actual sales are much higher than they are now according to vgchartz", they were WRONG. Vgchartz DOES track the PS2 and therefore the DS really IS the highest selling console of all time.

Still, not so sure about that ... However, I do think that at a certain point, it will be an evident fact !

So then, VGChartz. Brett. William. Anyone.

Answer me this.

If the PS2 shipments from November 2011 still haven't sold out, over a Year later, why have Sony shipped over 2 Million more since then?

To expand. Ill post what I posted in another thread about this.

The PS2 outshipped the DS between January-July this Year.

Its well known that the PS2 numbers here are vastly undertracked. Certain people dont want to see it, though. Just like last time the DS "passed" the PS2 going by VGChartz numbers.

Jan-March 2012 Shipments -

PS2: 0.6 Million
NDS: 0.46 Million

Apr-July 2012 Shipments -

PS2: 1M to 1.1 Million. We know this, due to knowing what PS3 sold along with YoY decrease in PS3 numbers.
NDS: 0.54 Million

The PS2 outshipped the DS in the first half of 2012.
_____________

As of March 2012, Sony had shipped 155.1 Million PS2s. Add on the Apr-July figure and you get a minimum of 156.1 Million PS2s. We dont know how many Sony have shipped since. Its safe to say that Sony will have shipped at least a Million more. PS2 shipments, right now, will be no lower than 157 Million.

If PS2 has only sold 153.68 Million units, then where are the rest of the shipped PS2s? If VGChartz wants to put these numbers out as fact, along with another "DS tops PS2" article then its seriously damaging for the credibility of the numbers here.

Whos to say VG CVhartz isn't off by millions?

DS still doesn't come close to PS2 shipped numbers.

Why are some Sony fans so paranoid about the DS overtaking the PS2? We don't know if is true or not, but what's the problem if it is indeed true? Can someone explain me this, I just don't get it...

Fucking exactly.  My guess is Sony will probably end production at ~160M, then put out a statement stating it is the #1 console ever at over 160M sold.  I see DS reaching 155M-157M til people either stop buying it and/or Nintendo pulls the plug, partly to help 3DS sales.  It also says something that the only real numbers we get for it now are from Japan, where the PS2 is usually outselling the DS 2:1, sometimes 3:1.

Nintendo guys have done this the last 2 years and have always been proving wrong.  Maybe this time they'll learn.  Not holding my breath, of course.

why do you assume that people bringing up legitimate questions on how the PS2 can have such a massive disparity between apparent shipped and sold numbers means that they're paranoid about DS overtaking it?  Are the questions really that far out of the realm of possibility?  Why do they have to have a problem with something in order to post about it, why can't it just be "they saw something which makes no sense whatsoever and are posting to bring it to light"?

You may not get that, but I honestly don't get how you and others can just ignore these questions and margianalize the asker instead of actually adressing it.

...

False. DS is a handheld, not a console. DS = king of handhelds, Ps2 = king of consoles.
