Its well known that the PS2 numbers here are vastly undertracked. Certain people dont want to see it, though. Just like last time the DS "passed" the PS2 going by VGChartz numbers. Jan-March 2012 Shipments - PS2: 0.6 Million NDS: 0.46 Million Apr-July 2012 Shipments - PS2: 1M to 1.1 Million. We know this, due to knowing what PS3 sold along with YoY decrease in PS3 numbers. NDS: 0.54 Million The PS2 outshipped the DS in the first half of 2012. _____________ As of March 2012, Sony had shipped 155.1 Million PS2s. Add on the Apr-July figure and you get a minimum of 156.1 Million PS2s. We dont know how many Sony have shipped since. Its safe to say that Sony will have shipped at least a Million more. PS2 shipments, right now, will be no lower than 157 Million. If PS2 has only sold 153.68 Million units, then where are the rest of the shipped PS2s? If VGChartz wants to put these numbers out as fact, along with another "DS tops PS2" article then its seriously damaging for the credibility of the numbers here. |
Fucking exactly. My guess is Sony will probably end production at ~160M, then put out a statement stating it is the #1 console ever at over 160M sold. I see DS reaching 155M-157M til people either stop buying it and/or Nintendo pulls the plug, partly to help 3DS sales. It also says something that the only real numbers we get for it now are from Japan, where the PS2 is usually outselling the DS 2:1, sometimes 3:1.
Nintendo guys have done this the last 2 years and have always been proving wrong. Maybe this time they'll learn. Not holding my breath, of course.
