For every Star Wars fan there is a Star Trek fan just waiting to tell them which is the better Sci Fi series.

it was always that way, as a Nintendo fan you just didn't notice it until now.

the Wii u is an easy target right now, and that is sure to draw a lot of snidy remarks and annoying comments and doom threads. if you get discuraged by that, what would Vita owners say?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

I'm fine with actual users trolling and whatever. That's fine if in one thread you make a troll post while in another you don't. The problem is when users do nothing but trolling and can't have actual conversations.

It also really sucks when stealth trollers are "applauded" for their work. Oh you silly fans you.

To me its the hypocrites. I mainly go by facts whether its MS,Sony or Nintendo. Some people tout Vgchartz as facts when their is evidence against it. "Equal posters" tend to actually be very biased. I think these people should defend anything that is fact and all that is not fact, but that is my opinion on this. I am going to have to take a break before I do break.

Like me :O?

Nope not you, you do not defend a company over the other.

I know that trolling was much worse it 2007-8, but that's not the issue. While I do agree with what Carl said about people needing a thicker skin, there definitely have been more problems recently due to trolling because of fanboyism. The Vita's initial sales have been less than stellar to put it nicely and certain Nintendo fans jumped all over it. Now the Wii U has released and it's first couple of weeks haven't been that great so certain Sony fans jump all over it. You can trace things back further and say stuff like Nintendo fans jumped on the Sony fans about the Vita because certain Sony fans scoffed at the initial 3DS sales and there's always the Sony vs. Microsoft thing, but the root of the problem is fanboyism. Most gamers favor one company over another and there is no problem in that. The problem is when they refuse to see how anyone else can see anything good in their favorite gaming company's competitors so they ridicule them. In conclusion, the sudden influx of trolling has happened because new systems have been released. Expect things to get even more heated when the next Playstation and XBox are released (if that's indeed what they are going to be called).

Now about what the moderators can do... As TADS stated earlier in this thread, the mod team has been working very hard together behind the scenes by having discussions about what is acceptable and what is not and there isn't always a black and white answer for everything. Stealth trolling, for example, is very much in the grey area so to speak. When does it cross the line? When is it funny? So on and so forth. All I can say is that overall I think that we have been very lenient in certain areas and maybe more strict in others, but we are trying to find the happy medium that makes this a fun site to visit. If we were to be Nazi mods, as was suggested earlier, then I don't think that we would have many members that would want to return. On the other hand, we don't wan't to be too lenient because my goal and I'm sure the goal of the other mods is that VGChartz should be a place where someone can come to have an intelligent and sometimes relatively heated debate without things descending into immature trolling. As I said above, it's all about us finding the happy medium which is easier said than done. We are always open for suggestions and will take them into consideration.

I was unclear and you misread that. Ryan is my friend, I know he is intelligent, I said so in the post. He is not shitty, he is not fucky, it's the site that's getting fucked (e.g. sabotaged) because of his shitty (read "zero-effort") posts. I'm basically asking him to serve the site with his talents rather than spitting on it with typos everywhere and barely legible posts. (He does that)

well my bad. it happens. you and Ryan are friends, and i'm just left-overs. well that's comforting lol.

OT: i originally came here to curve trolling, but my efforts were futile. i've only reported one person, and he had mod protection, or whatever it was back then.

oh and spamm bots. i must admit, i don't stick around in threads or revisit threads like i use to so that's one reason i may not see most actions considered trolling.

mods have it hard and likely get fed up with the job, and are seen less around the site. take Montanahatchet for instance. last i talked to him, he was pretty much done, and we've seen hide nore hair of him.

it's not the mod team my friend. i'm not sure wht to do cause it won't end no mater wht you do. and in the end banns of any kind do nothing. some are contraversial which is good, while some take it a step to far which is the problem, but i see no solution.

I disagree.

Its not that there are too many trolls, its that people are too thin-skinned, paranoid and get offended at the least little thing. This site has always been this way. Its been far worse than how it is now.

One thing that makes VGChartz forums far worse than many other forums is the competitive nature of the site. Its about sales. Cold, hard numbers. Naturally, this brings in the fanboys and threads get trashed either way. Be it a Halo thread, a Mario thread or a Gran Turismo thread.

I also think that we could do with another couple of active moderators.

Thank you.

I've reported maybe 15 things in 4 years, but I'm sure I get reported every day.

Shit! If you guys knew how many times I go through my posts to fix autofill or touch screen problems. On top of that it is not like I can just easily go to tootle on my cell to see if a word is spelled right. Its a new world. No American gives a Shit about the English language. Just like no one gives a Shit about trolls. If everyone agreed with everything life would be boring and easy. There would be no need for elections or multiple home Televisions. Because everyone agrees.

We don't need to agree to have an intelligent conversation Ryan. You know that.

Also, I'm personally Canadian, and I care about spelling, I think it shows a level of intelligence that, for anyone capable of spelling (yes, I know you are), is an important step towards showing good will and interest in the conversation. It forsters healthy debate.

If noone gave a shit about trolls, why is this thread already at some 20 posts?

You're not seeing clearly.

Spelling properly does not indicate any good will or interest. Also, you spelled fosters wrong, and noone is not a word.

Any more rocks you want to throw?

I reported you for not reporting enough. I expect with your storied past that this time it might be permament.

suggestions? only one.

discretion, which is what the mod team is alreay doing. the medium yields the same results as over moding, and under moding and that's unhappy members.

so mods just do wht you can. it's not black and white, and intent blurs the lines of funny and trolling, and you want to be fair, and not harp on harmless post while being vigilant.

what a job!! that blured line is why i couldn't do the job.
