| amp316 said: I know that trolling was much worse it 2007-8, but that's not the issue. While I do agree with what Carl said about people needing a thicker skin, there definitely have been more problems recently due to trolling because of fanboyism. The Vita's initial sales have been less than stellar to put it nicely and certain Nintendo fans jumped all over it. Now the Wii U has released and it's first couple of weeks haven't been that great so certain Sony fans jump all over it. You can trace things back further and say stuff like Nintendo fans jumped on the Sony fans about the Vita because certain Sony fans scoffed at the initial 3DS sales and there's always the Sony vs. Microsoft thing, but the root of the problem is fanboyism. Most gamers favor one company over another and there is no problem in that. The problem is when they refuse to see how anyone else can see anything good in their favorite gaming company's competitors so they ridicule them. In conclusion, the sudden influx of trolling has happened because new systems have been released. Expect things to get even more heated when the next Playstation and XBox are released (if that's indeed what they are going to be called). Now about what the moderators can do... As TADS stated earlier in this thread, the mod team has been working very hard together behind the scenes by having discussions about what is acceptable and what is not and there isn't always a black and white answer for everything. Stealth trolling, for example, is very much in the grey area so to speak. When does it cross the line? When is it funny? So on and so forth. All I can say is that overall I think that we have been very lenient in certain areas and maybe more strict in others, but we are trying to find the happy medium that makes this a fun site to visit. If we were to be Nazi mods, as was suggested earlier, then I don't think that we would have many members that would want to return. On the other hand, we don't wan't to be too lenient because my goal and I'm sure the goal of the other mods is that VGChartz should be a place where someone can come to have an intelligent and sometimes relatively heated debate without things descending into immature trolling. As I said above, it's all about us finding the happy medium which is easier said than done. We are always open for suggestions and will take them into consideration. |
suggestions? only one.
discretion, which is what the mod team is alreay doing. the medium yields the same results as over moding, and under moding and that's unhappy members.
so mods just do wht you can. it's not black and white, and intent blurs the lines of funny and trolling, and you want to be fair, and not harp on harmless post while being vigilant.
what a job!! that blured line is why i couldn't do the job.
