I know that trolling was much worse it 2007-8, but that's not the issue. While I do agree with what Carl said about people needing a thicker skin, there definitely have been more problems recently due to trolling because of fanboyism. The Vita's initial sales have been less than stellar to put it nicely and certain Nintendo fans jumped all over it. Now the Wii U has released and it's first couple of weeks haven't been that great so certain Sony fans jump all over it. You can trace things back further and say stuff like Nintendo fans jumped on the Sony fans about the Vita because certain Sony fans scoffed at the initial 3DS sales and there's always the Sony vs. Microsoft thing, but the root of the problem is fanboyism. Most gamers favor one company over another and there is no problem in that. The problem is when they refuse to see how anyone else can see anything good in their favorite gaming company's competitors so they ridicule them. In conclusion, the sudden influx of trolling has happened because new systems have been released. Expect things to get even more heated when the next Playstation and XBox are released (if that's indeed what they are going to be called).

Now about what the moderators can do... As TADS stated earlier in this thread, the mod team has been working very hard together behind the scenes by having discussions about what is acceptable and what is not and there isn't always a black and white answer for everything. Stealth trolling, for example, is very much in the grey area so to speak. When does it cross the line? When is it funny? So on and so forth. All I can say is that overall I think that we have been very lenient in certain areas and maybe more strict in others, but we are trying to find the happy medium that makes this a fun site to visit. If we were to be Nazi mods, as was suggested earlier, then I don't think that we would have many members that would want to return. On the other hand, we don't wan't to be too lenient because my goal and I'm sure the goal of the other mods is that VGChartz should be a place where someone can come to have an intelligent and sometimes relatively heated debate without things descending into immature trolling. As I said above, it's all about us finding the happy medium which is easier said than done. We are always open for suggestions and will take them into consideration.

Thanks Amp.

I'm thinking, even if there is no trolling, do you think it's important that when debates get heated, that it's important for the health of the forum for people to be mature about it?

I know personally I have a hard time keeping a cool head. How does that factor into the equation? This is something I'd personally like to talk about.

Even if I'm not flaming per se, I know I'm being aggressive or hostile and it's bad. What's your view on that?

There is nothing wrong with being getting heated, or passionate about a subject. It's just important that a certain line is not crossed, and I think that line is perfectly visible.

Spelling properly does not indicate any good will or interest. Also, you spelled fosters wrong, and noone is not a word.

Any more rocks you want to throw?

I know that I can get accusatory, but you realize you're just repeating what tads said, and you're ignoring the fact that I know Ryan pretty well, and that I know he's capable of better.

He even said so himself, it's because he's on a mobile. Well, look Carl also is on a mobile and he puts the effort to correct his mistakes.

I am a person who tends to call others out, but in this case I wasn't saying anything Ryan didn't already know.

Also, if you want me not to throw stones, you might as well not do it yourself. As I said to tads, my typos are not at all in the same nature as Ryans, and only someone who hasn't been paying attention would make that correlation.

1Did you consider that maybe I hadn't read the bolded reference post yet?

2And you're ignoring the fact that all it takes is a little understanding to see past that. You also know that I post from a phone mainly, yet you don't say the same for me. I think you're picking on him, and if you want to get into a discussion about spurge, feel free to get crazy, because I'm finding this all pretty insulting to him. Not that you're actually insulting him by saying he can't spell, or isn't trying, but by saying he's shitting up the site. A lot of our forum has been kept alive by this dood....during the periods when there was literally no sales to talk about.

3 Except Carl also used incorrect punctuation three times in just two sentences, and referred to a guideline that said effort should be put into your posts, confirming spurge as being 'in the wrong'.

4. I think you should just try to stick to improving yourself.

5. lol wow. I'm not throwing stones, I'm pointing out your hypocrisy. Furthermore that line is one of the most arrogant self-serving sentences I've read in a while. Who do you think you are? Your typos are not in the same manner? Only someone who was not paying attention (myself, I presume) would make that correlation?

"Also, I'm personally Canadian, and I care about spelling, I think it shows a level of intelligence that, for anyone capable of spelling (yes, I know you are), is an important step towards showing good will and interest in the conversation. It forsters healthy debate."

How does spurge having a hanging 'd' differ from you using made up words? My mind is blown.

I think I'm just going to ignore you from now on, you're not able to think logically and your whole value-system is out of whack.

  •  Carl's level of incorrect grammar can't be equated to spurge's in any reasonable benchmark.
  • No, I didn't consider that you hadn't read it yet because I assume that when people post things about othersin a thread, they try to read the whole thread first. It's part of the whole "putting in the effort" thing.
  • Don't lecture me on Spurge, I fucking participated as judge in the VGChartz got talent with him. This ties into the whole thin skin thing, yes it's applicable to you.
  • I know you post from a phone, and it shows in the downgraded quality of your posts of late. I can't say anything about it since you went from awesome to meh. Spurge on the other hand is nearly unbearable at times. He's capable of better.
  • I am trying to improve myself, and I'm trying to spur my friends to better themselves. Is that a problem to you?
  • If you're pointing out my hypocrisy in a way that is hostile, then you are throwing stones. That's the principle behind it.
  • You and tads are not paying attention to Ryan's posts, I am much more active than both of you are in the regular threads, and I can tell you that Spurge is on a different level of typos than Carl and you, even me. So, that's the truth, if you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen.

Spurge's original post:

"I nominate happydolphin, condegamer and Carl as new mode.

The old guard is hardly here anymore. Dump them and truly rejuvenate the mod team. If they are not here then why are they mode? Checking in once every month just to keep their position of power."

Mod is mispelled TWICE, Con D e gamer?

Honestly, if you don't see a problem, then you have no idea what is going on.

There are too many thin skinned d people on this site. Me included. Everyone has thin skin for something different. Database, numbers, Sony heaters, trolling, slamming, spelling (jay520), certain members, Reggie, Sony CEO guy, etc.

That is what this thread should really be called. Neogaf is just a few doors down. Go knock on its door. They don't have any of these problems ....

What a poor response to criticism.

"If you don't like it, GET OUT!"

nice

Lol! Sometimes you are a very funny poster Jason. @ happydolphin The thread is so big because 90 percent of the posters are trolls, including myself. Every troll on the net comes to the Wild West which is Vgchartz. They feel the can settle down and have a home here. This is their (our sanctuary). You asked me how come? Let me asked you how come now. How come there are members (like you) who no matter what always have to be right? This thread could be a thousand posts long and YOU would still be debating (arguing). There are trolls, spammers, baiters, and then posters like you who can never be wrong. Everyone has their clicks I guess. To each there own.

This is all true. HappyDOLPHIN never admits when he is wrong. It's a shame really.

the trolling on this site has always been bad. some users get away with just about anything, and some users have the book thrown at them for nothing. very uneven moderation on this site.

Also why the Hell have you derailed your own thread? You should be warned by the "mods ". Is this a spelling B thread or a trolling thread? B= baiting?

It's a question of people sabotaging the threads with trolling, and that includes people posting "I don't care" posts that are full of typos and completely delusional logic like "Let's nominate D as a mod" when all I ask for is some answers.

Yes, you're trolling my thread, so I'm calling you out on it. Spelling is just part of the problem.

Seriously? I can't believe this... If someone says something intelligent, I will agree.

Not going to dispute that there is a place for petitions, but I only mean to compare their effectiveness to remind people that if they actually want a game to come to a console, it's not necessarily enough to simply say you want it to happen. Personally, I would be more interested in some sort of pledge to buy GTAV for WiiU if it ever is released, as opposed to a "please bring it to Wii U because it would be cool" petition. Extra points if there is an option to include the signees' Nintendo Network ID, to give it a little more legitimacy. A petition is a push, and in some circumstances might just work. However, to tackle the problem of improving third-party support on Nintendo home consoles, I will always reccomend a stronger option.

From that optic, I can agree. But the original vantage point (to discredit one due to the supremacy of the other) I couldn't. Glad you put it into perspective.

Sadly, the intelligence level here has been at an all-time low lately, so maybe that's why you guys have this impression. It ties back to OP.

@Spurge. Is Khristmas an auto-correction? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Ok, happy, let's start over. What do you want to accomplish with this thread?

I was looking for answers from people who felt the same way as I did, that it was becoming more and more difficult to have intelligent conversations about the sales in the industry.

I was hoping some people could bring in some enthusiasm and ideas to help form a group that's against it, or learn ways to deflect it.

I was hoping to talk about it and learn to deal with it.

(I also want to start over)

"If someone says something intelligent, I will agree"

Wow, so everyone you've ever debated with is not intelligent. Get off your high horse buddy.

The nerve of this guy.
