I'd say it's the turn that the company has taken since 2011. All this time I had been supporting NIntendo in trying to make games for everyone and now, all of a sudden, they expect me to be okay with the fact that Nintendo's crawling back to this annoying gore-obsessed "Mature" 11-19-year-old male audience that the rest of the industry caters to. These guys never loved you, Nintendo, and they're never going to.
The only worse thing Nintendo can do is make a "Mature" game by themselves, at which point they'll be hopeless.

Nintendo is trying to get a better mix of customers with the Wii U. I wouldn't say they are crawling back to the gore-obsessed youth.

Outside one (bought) exclusive like Bayonetta, they aren't doing anything different then with the Wii.

I'd say they're making a genuine effort to try to get more of the hardcore audience than with the wii... with making sure that ports are coming over to the Wii U.. And I see this as a good thing.

And to be honest, I don't think that this audience truly existed for consoles before the current generation and the advent of console online gaming..

You're never going to convince elitists who see their tastes as the only valid style of gaming and who depend on negative, heavily skewed generalizations for their arguments.  It's a wasted effort to even try.

I don't think they are aiming to those elitist, but those kind of people which can be swayed. Nintendo is rather cost-savy company. I don't think they would waste money on trying to convinced the ones who can't be convinced.

Remember those charts Iwata showed at some E3 before, about the nr of people who were gamers, those who could be convinced to game and those who would never. They probably got similar charts for the hardcore/core/Non-Nintendo audience.

Oops, no, misunderstanding, sorry.  I'm talking about the guy who made the ignorant and elitist generalizations about mature rated games and the people who like them.  You can't convince people like them.

Note: normally I would delete some of the quote pyramid, but I think it's important that I leave it in for this post.

The Wii, my most hated console... Makes me turn my back on the Wii U, and Nintendo is making the same error again, a new console less powerful than the current generation. I love nin's exclusives, but buying a new console each time for the same purpose, seems absurd.

But it was the market who punched Miyamoto's baby. He showed it to the market, and boom! It got punched into sales oblivion.

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

That's something that kinda pisses me of by Nintendo, just because the franchise doesn't sell as good as Mario or Zelda doesn't mean the franchise isn't strong enough. F-Zero is a really popular franchise and they can target  a younger audience who never played the game before (thanks to Smash some will know who Captain Falcon is).

GX sold 650k (according to VGC) and for a console that had a really crappy install base it was decent.

A lot of people love this franchise and Nintendo should give it a chance, the same goes with Star Fox.

The initial refusal to bring the Operation Rainfall games to NA.

I will expand on this one. The refusal to bring Wii japanese games to America, taking into account that the translation effort was already done by NOE and that the Wii lineup was very, very, very thin for 2012.

Now that I think of it. Sakurai pissed me off by insulting competitive gamers and gimping Brawl on purpose just to spite people. I mean, what planet does that guy live on? So what if people play a game in a way you don't like. The competitive melee scene did NOTHING to take away other people's enjoyment of the game, it just made it even better.

I LOVE ICELAND!
