To troll or not to troll, that is the question.

Well, that's quite a positive post from you regarding this topic.

I was instantly turned off when I played it at PAX Prime 2011, and only because of one reason, fucking QTEs.

The game has 5 QTE sections in the whole game. All of them occur in the main story, that is 1 QTE/5 hours and that only if you don't play any side quests in between.

Actually the monsters you have in your party get this special move, and to use them it usually requires some sort of QTE.

Played 120 hours of FF XIII and got the platinum trophy for it. Looking back on it, I forced myself to do it, even though I enjoyed parts of the game.
Tried the demo for FF XIII-2 and was immediately bored. Did not and will not buy it.

I just can't be assed with JRPG's anymore, they all feel stale and the same to me. I can't relate to the characters, they're too weird, too young, too deep in problems that are absolute alien to me. And to think I grew up playing japanese games and enjoying them the most...

JRPGs have always been cheesy, we just couldn't tell back when it was pure text and sprites.

There are still quality games in the genre. If I only stuck to Final Fantasy, I would have given up the genre as well.

I loved FFXIII-2 of course but it's not better than FFXIII.

But if your main issue with FFXIII was the linearity than I guess yeah you'll enjoy FFXIII-2 more.

Also FFXIII-2 was a lot more fun to platinum than FFXIII. The paradox endings are nice too.

Exactly what I think. FFXIII does nearly everything better. Still an enjoyable game though.

How is that even possible when every complaint from XIII was addressed and 'fixed' in XIII-2

Both of you are reptiles. That's the only explanation. Yes you are part of ioi's reptile conspiracy crew.

- Only two characters to control in the whole game. Plus a monster that you have no control over.
- Monsters have an assigned paradigm. Even if it would be an awesome Ravanger or Commando it may be locked to Saboteur or Sentinel.
- Far shorter
- Most battles are so easy on normal that you don't need any Synergist, Sentinel or Saboteur (talking about pressing "A" to win)
- On the other hand the final boss battle is so hard that you need to grind for hours until you manage to get to the next form and after that you probably need to grind some more.
- Chocolina is incresbily useless for the most part of the game. You can only upgrade your weapons about three times during the whole main story. She doesn't sell any ingredients. And even more important she only sells powerups for monsters that are currently under the level of the monster powerups you find during battles.
- Crystarium system is boring because it's always the same.
- You fight the same boss 5 times or more in the story mode and he never changes his tactics.

I'm sure there is more.

The only good one of the special moves is Hyper Rescue from Flanitor. The rest is mostly unnecessary as you can't change paradigms during the move and I get the feeling that the leader doesn't attack during that time either.

sorry dude, a bad game is a bad game.  I don't mind bad games happening, but when bad games threaten to ensure no more good games in my favorite series are released, I tend to fight back.

If VsXIII comes out and is as good as Final Fantasy IV-X+XII (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,  10, and 12), then I'll happily forget that XIII and XIII-2 exist and I'll never bring up my hatred for the pair again.

Until then, this is war.

I'm going to pick it up when it's like 10 bucks anyways, so no biggie really :)

It was very enjoyable but ridiculously easy. I feel as though 13 was the better game overall despite the linearity. 13-2 felt like a Frankenstein's monster of a videogame with game elements plopped in purely to placate all the people that hated 13. Not enough mini games? Here have these crappy paradox puzzles and chucking mog at stuff off screen. Didn't like the FF12 hunt style sidequests in 13? No problem have these crappy fetch quests instead. Too linear? Here have some half assed Crono Trigger time travel branching paths crap which we didn't think through well enough so we can give off the illusion it isn't linear.

Then out of nowhere they pull a Symphonia 2 and give us 2 unlikable protagonists and a bunch of monsters for a sense of 'customization'.

Sounds like i'm slamming the game but trust me it was still very enjoyable.
