Well there is a lack of Japanese games on Vita, people take what they can get.

vita doesnt have nothing really bigger announced even for next year... |
E3 2013. Nuff said.
The next Call of Duty or FIFA aren't announced yet for PS3/360, but they'll be the biggest sellers of the year.
| NightDragon83 said: No way. The Vita will be lucky if it can even come close to PSP sales levels in the West. 3DS will pick up steam during the holidays and the next time there's a price drop for it here in the West. Remember... the original DS launched at a modest $129.99, and stayed around that price point for the duration of its life. When 3DS launched it was just as expensive as the Vita, and had hardly any compelling games other than 3D remakes of old N64 games. As soon as Nintendo finally gets around to launching the next generation of Pokemon games on the 3DS, it's game over for Sony and the Vita. |
Actually it launched at $149.99 and it got a price cut with the DS lite
OT: If you can tell me what announced games will be able to reverse the tides we have a discussion
The OP is correct to emphasize the games, since that always determines the winner. However, I'm not sure what is meant by Westernized games.
If he means games made by western devs, then the 3DS will have both Scribblenauts Unlimited and a new Epic Mickey this holiday. Sure, they don't have the name recognition of Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed, but one is from a franchise that is a proven hit on handhelds and the other features a timeless mascot and inspiration from a beloved 16-bit game.
If he means games in the action genre favored by western devs, then I'll concede that the Vita has more of those, but I'm not sure that's an advantage. Sony introduced the Vita as the way to finally play console-style games on the go without first making sure that it's what people want. The Vita has no shortage of such games, some of them high-profile, yet not one of them has sold 1 million yet according to VGC. Historically, the most successful genres on handhelds are puzzle, platformer, and rpg. On handhelds, it's usually better to have a Prof. Layton or Paper Mario on your side than an Uncharted or Assassin's Creed.
Finally, let's not forget that there is already a 2D Mario and a Pokemon game available this year. Even a few months old and/or developed for an older platform, both have proven to be huge guns in Nintendo's arsenal, especially during holidays. Combine this with the fact that the Vita's known line-up for 2013 is made of smaller or untested IPs, I don't think Nintendo will have to worry too much.
| JoeTheBro said: I agree with what you mean but not with what people think you mean. Last gen the DS's strongest market was America. Japan was good for the PSP. This gen it will swap with the 3DS doing its best in Japan while the Vita will do best in the west. This has nothing to do with 3DS verse Vita sales. |
this doesn't make any sense. By units sold, Europe was the best market for both DS and PSP.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
As an owner of the both a Vita and 3DS; from my perspective the Vita has my attention much more than my 3DS.
at the moment for the 3DS I own(owned) Eight games since launch:
Samaria Warrior Chronicles
Super Street Fighter 3D
Resident Evil: Mercenaries
Resident Evil Revelations
Super Mario 3D land
Mario Kart 7
Tales of the Abyss
Kingdom Hearts 3D
and for my Vita I'm the track to surpassing that amount in it's first year.
Uncharted Golden Abyss
Unit 13
Resistance Burning Skies
Gravity Rush
Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus
Super Stardust Delta
LBP Vita
and I will be getting(all paid off)
Ragnorak Odyssey
Persona 4: The Golden
AC: Liberations
The Vita does have the games(imo) unfortunately the games don't have the notoriety of the games the 3DS has, hopefully Sony puts the effort into the Vita like they did with the PS3, the Vita has alot of potential, hopefully the holiday season will be generous for the vita and along with an early price cut(hopefully) will keep the vita rolling
Yeah, but 99% of those $1-$5 ios games suck ass. That is not true gaming. If it is, i will no longer be a gamer.

Europe lol? Obviously that third country is excluded from this thread.
| spurgeonryan said: To counter that what willnmake the 3DS turn around in the West? You got to admit that the vita seems poised to have a lot of Westernized games. While the 3DS has already showed us its cards. Why wouldn't the west choose the vita? |
Do Western games even matter that much in the handheld market? What Western developer really puts effort into that market? I don't really follow the handheld market as much as consoles, so I could be mistaken. But my impression is that most handheld games from Western developers are all either ports or another tie-in with the real game, which is on the consoles and/or PC.

Even with the lack of games in the 3DS's Western library, it still ships as many units as Japan. I don't see it happening. Even a FF7 remake or Gran Turismo wouldn't help the Vita reach current 3DS numbers. Sony need something amazing up their sleeve with regard to cloud gaming and PS4 integration with the Vita to pull anything off.
