I dont know nintendo has a strong 3ds fanbase. Nintendo is just a simple formula of marketing to kids and families. Sony's vita is an awesome piece of technology I checked it out at gamestop. I think the vita will sell like hotcakes with call of duty declassifed this holiday season. Call of duty multiplayer on the go that is pretty cool idea. Beating nintendo is alittle unrealistic they have a strong marketing campaign towards kids and it works.

It is very, very unlikely that Vita will ever come close to 3DS's sales in the west. Historical precedent doesn't support your theory, and there is no indication that Vita is suddenly going to pick up and 3DS is going to inexplicably slow down. 3DS is getting stronger, particularly now that Nintendo has been releasing one big first-party title roughly every eight weeks to keep the momentum up. 3DS sales the first half of 2013 in America are likely to be even stronger than early 2012... Luigi's Mansion, Fire Emblem, MH3 Ultimate, and Animal Crossing all within six months. Does Vita have much of anything big coming that's been announced post-2012?

There's too many systems for developers to support anyway.

Next year it will be PS4 + 720 + PC + iOS + Android + Wii U + PS3 + 360 as very active platforms for Western devs.

No Western dev is going to put a major team on a 3DS or Vita project IMO.

Japanese devs will support 3DS by default.

Vita is left in no man's land.

I'm optimistic for the vita but I not sure if this will happen at all. But who knows?

Well there's a good chance of that Killzone game being released for Vita in 2013. And Dust 514... oh wait that's also on PS3.

Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty coming to Vita in the next couple of weeks. LittleBigPlanet is out so is Uncharted and a bunch of other games. There's also a Bioshock game promised for the system.

Anyway I think what OP fails to see is that Vita owners love Japanese games just as much(if not more) than western games. Look at Gravity Rush. Got great reception from fans and critics. Look at pre-orders....that Persona game is doing extremely well. Much better than Assassin's Creed.

Can the Vita start outselling the 3DS? I say its impossible in Japan. Possible in the West but still unlikely.

Dunno, those games will not be that big in the U.S imo (specially AC with it's console counterpart), but there are some interesting tittles in the horizon, we just have to wait and see. I do agree that most PSP owners bought the system because of Japanese style games, so if those type of games don't come to the west (and heck even in Japan with lack of support) then we won't see big sales (at least software based) anytime soon.

AC will do really well. Pre-orders are decent and the bundle seems do be doing really well. I expect a big boost in all territories except Japan.
