Forums - Nintendo - Namco-Bandai: No Plans for Tales on WiiU "at this time"

LOL they probably busy atm developing the games they have scheduled to release.

Once those are done sure a Tales game will be annouced. Lets hope they port it to the west along with other Japanese developers and their games. They would make so much more money and not like it is hard to translate.

Porting WiiU's Tales may not be an easy feat; aside from translating, they would have to rerecord the dialogue for English speaking audiences... it takes time to do that stuff, and Tales hasn't had much luck in America, sales-wise.  Symphonia was the only exception to the rule, clearing 1 million worldwide, but I don't think the others got anywhere nearly as lucky in America.

Also, the SNES version of Tales of Phantasia is Japan only :(

We Tales of fans should be happy that at least we are getting some games, instead of hopping for them to be in our consoles of choice

:(

Why don't you make like a tree and get out of here?

^ absolutely. If Wii U proves popular with core Tales fanbase and they embrace Tales on system. Power to them. My main point is me and you shouldn't worry about this. Its not aimed at us. Just ppl who get to play it once in awhile

Yeah, well here's the thing:  WiiU is practically POISED to take over the JRPG market what with MH and DQ.  Both of which are guaranteed to be successes.  And I think DQ is one of the "leading" franchises that signals other 3rd parties to jump aboard the hype train.  In the event that it happens, I expect Tales sometime between 2014-2015... that is, should the system sell well

And it's not like Namco hasn't tested Tales before.  The Dawn of the New World sequel was kinda a test release (although I find it odd that some people are stating that Namco is disappointed in the sales of that particular game, especially since it basically gave them the greenlight to make Graces), and it did good enough for them to make Graces on Wii.  (Of course we all know what happened after that, but still.)

DQ is a leading franchise, but there's a gigantic asterik next to the entry on the Wii and the upcoming Wii U game. It'll still be a successful financially, but it'll sell 1/4 of previous DQ games? You're not getting as many people to get in with DQX.

Remember that Wii also had a mainline non port MH and a DQ. MH audience is on handhelds not consoles. I don't think MH3U is gonna help Wii U getting more RPG (MH is not and RPG to begin with) . And Dragon Quest is an port of an online DQ, that's not gonna help much either. Perphaps DQXI (non online) would help but that's 3DS's bounded. When DQX was annouced for Wii a lot of people, including myself, thought that there's was going to be a lot of new RPG games for Wii but it didn't happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dragon Quest XI turns out to be a 3DS + Wii U hybrid title.

Play at home in 1080p on Wii U, play on the go on the 3DS, seamlessly swap your game save back and forth. Miiverse integration and all that. Square-Enix is going to clean up selling both versions.

Probably already in development.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on Wii U is also bound to happen.

It's possible, but even if it happens there's not past evidence of a DQ being at the same time in both handheld and console so we can't say for sure that it's gonna make developers to put their games on Wii-U. The scenarios could be 50-50 handeld-console or 80-20, we don't know. And MH4U would be the same as 3U, a one year late port of a 3DS game.

Like many publishers, Namco must be in a wait and see approach as for as WiiU. They need to know wether Nintendo can win back the core before developing anything like Tales which is a traditional franchise.

The majority of Tales fans are playing on PS3 (and 3DS) right now, they hardly have any urge to develop on another system. Tales of Xillia in Japan alone is bigger than Vesperia or Symphonia 2 worldwide. Tales of Vesperia/Graces sold twice as many copies as their counterparts on 360/Wii in Japan. Graces F already sold more than Symphonia 2 in the west despite Wii having a larger user base. How can a developing and uncertain WiiU user base do them any good?

But what could happen is Nintendo throwing money at Namco to get a timed exclusive that would be released later on PS3/4 with more content.

Wouldn't say that

The 360 got Tales of Vesperia cause they couldn't afford the PS3 Development at that time and Microsoft paid good cause they wanted to conquer Japan.
They always wanted the game on the PS3 - You could see that on stuff that was already prepared in the 360 Version.

Graces was probably the same case cause the PS3 still wasn't that strong on the market.
Graces F showed what they really wanted to make.

Vesperia Final Version,Graces F and Tales of Xillia(Franchise PreOrder Records in Japan and destroyed FF13-2) made Bamco a lot of money.
The Tales of Studios were nearly shutdown after the 360 Version of Vesperia did so bad.
I think the WiiU will get a Tales of if the PS4 is taking too much time to get released...We still have Xillia 2 but this is out in November i think.Maybe we will see another "Beta" on the WiiU and the Final Version on the PS4.
I don't think Bamco wants to miss out on the insane numbers the Sony console is doing for them.

Both of those games were near the end of Wii's lifetime.

So much of this post is wrong.

First of all, the PS3 port of Vesperia released before Tales of Graces did, so that eliminates most of your statements. While it's likely true MS and Namco had a deal for Vesperia, it's not like the game did poorly (it's hilarious to even consider that Tales Studio was in any sort of trouble after Vesperia) or that they needed to wait longer to release a game on the system.

Xillia was also very successful, but did not do as well as FF XIII-2, so I don't know how selling less = destroyed?

On the Xillia preorder part, you are incorrect. The 200k preorders made it the most preordered Tales game, not the biggest PS3 game as FFXIII far outdid Xillia in preorders and in overall sales numbers .
