All of this is still wait and see stuff.

GC and N64 were technically stronger, but for some reason the PS games always looked better and had more to offer. I think the carts could not hold as much on them.

"Looks better" is a matter of opinion. Design, translates into "looks better", not hardware strength.

Most PSX games relied heavily on CG and stills. What looked better were the CGI sprites and backgrounds. The pure 3D PSX games couldn't hold a candle to N64 games.

PS1 came out in 1994, N64 came out in 1996, it would be sad if N64 didn't have better graphics.

False. The Ultra 64 was running games in 1994(Killer Instinct and Cruisin USA.) as arcade hardware. The Nintendo Ultra 64 console was made playable to the public in 95, but it was the same main tech that was in the arcade machines only with a few downgrads in the area of storage and memory.

Its the same with the Sega System 16 and Megadrive/Genesis, as well as NAOMI and the Dreamcast.

The N64 was 1994 technology.

Of course Reggie has to take this line. He wouldn't be much of a businessman if he admitted defeat before Nintendo's new system even comes out.

That being said, he's right. Does anyone seriously think Wii U sales will dry up as soon as Microsoft and Sony release a next generation system? Nintendo offers things that the other two don't offer.

Even if Microsoft and Sony emulate some of the Wii U's features -- Miiverse, asymmetrical gameplay, Nintendo TVii -- they can't just borrow Mario, Zelda, Wii Sports, Pokemon, etc.

People will want to buy those games, and the system that supports them. I imagine Nintendo will unveil a slew of high profile games at E3 2013, including the next Zelda and the new Retro project. That should steal a little thunder from Sony and Microsoft, if they are indeed launching new systems in 2013.

“It’s based on having great graphics, it’s based on having a robust online execution,”

Then what the hell have you been doing the past 6 years!?

Promoting a console that was based on something else.

Exactly. There was nothing wrong with the Wii, but they can't just make a U-turn like that.

I say it, not based on personal taste but on how the "hardcore" gaming landscape was formed this generation. 3rd Party titles like Assasin Creed and Modern Warfare dominated. Although the above games may not be to your taste, the taste makers (the gaming media) are coining them the ones to look out for, what bigger titles have been announced for next winter/2014? Naturally these are likely to become the mass market games which the casual gamers will lean to.

WIthout these titles (or whatever the next big titles/franhcises are) on their platform there is no way Nintendo can "Fend Off" or compete with PS4/720, they will instead be forced to carve their on niche similar to the Wii. Thats not necessarily a bad thing, but as I don't feel the Wii U PAD has the same "Blue Ocean" appeal as the wii-mote it'll put nintendo in risk of underperforming.

LOL WHAT? New super mario 2 sold faster then the original in the uk. How many times does it take to get through to people nintendo can live entirely on their own franchises. Nintendo are showing absolutely no sign in slowing down in software power.

@ Dirty it would look absolutely no different on ps4 and 360 2 though. What will 360 2 buyers cheer for? A late port of modern warfare 4? A port of bungie's multiplat xbox game?

What were vita fans cheering for? Marvel vs capcom? Ninja gaiden sigma? Metal gear solid hd? These are all ports.

You miss my point completely. By not offering such titles Nintendo wouldn't really be in competition with the other platform, in such a situation those who seek the best of the best 3rd party titles will either have to pick up PS4 or 720 (similar to how this gen panned out). I don't doubt their ability to move their own software but without a wii sports, or wii fit quality title on the horizon to draw in a new audience and with the core gamer arguably satisfied with their current systems or at least content, I don't see the Wii U fairing as well if they fail to get Next Gen-3rd party support. Thats not to say they'll fail, just underperform.

Bull! When has it ever been about having better graphics with Nintendo.

The N64.

I thought they eventually learned their lesson on that one, though.

True, but N64 came out over a year (and a half [Japan]) after the PS1 so it was bound to have better specs - although I'm unsure if it was underpowered compared to how it was hyped during the Ultra 64 vaporware days or if the cart format really held it back.

Sticking with carts certainly cost them the gen and is the reason the PS1 took off like it did.

I'll believe it when I see it, show that you can do it and I'll buy your system.

Damnit! You made me think Millenium came back!

I like that Reggie is so confident. I like that Reggie is talking like this. They really seem to be fixing the mistakes from last gen (with Wii's lack of 3rd party titles due to the power disparity). I hope it holds up.

They'll fend of 720/PS4 easily because #1 they have at least a year head start on the competition, #2 they'll be the cheapest console again, and #3 their competitors won't have a huge advantage in raw power again, as most 720 / PS4 games will only look marginally better than what the Wii U is capable of.

Anyone who thinks PS4 and 720 will be able to do stuff like the Unreal 4 demo at launch are gonna be in for a big disappointment.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

I think the 720/PS4 will quickly outpace the Wii U visually though.

My PC with a GTX 570, which isn't exactly bleeding edge anymore, but still a decent card, can take even a middle-of-the-pack game like Sonic Generations and make it look noticably better than the PS3 version. 1080p + tons of anti-aliasing and other effects make a difference.

For higher end games, I think the difference will be even more noticeable.
