Not to pile on, but the fact there isn't a response from any administrators sans Tor kinda proves the OPs point.

Maybe spending too much time in off topic ?

and even before it was rather well known that Gamewise was coming.

| Torillian said: depends what staff you mean. If you mean the writing staff, then yes. If you mean the sales staff, I'd say no though obviously a few left. DB staff: yes, but that's because the functions moved to gamewise same reason that the writing staff have abandoned ya. Since most of the admins were people that got promoted because they handled other portions of the site than the forums or the sales a lot of them/us have left as well which is probably why you feel this way. The true killer is that the programmers have left, and that's why you get less fixes taking more time than they used to. Tough to find someone you can trust with you site and willing to help you out on the cheap. The few programmers we have are stretched thin with there being three separate sites to work on now instead of just the one we used to have. Btw, censoring crap as c*** just makes me think you're using a much worse but grammatically incorrect term. |
Depending on what "on the cheap" means I'd be willing to help out in my spare time. I think my long-term presence on this site can attest that I'm trustworthy and that I won't just delete all tables.

So whats the site about? Just searched for a random game like DMC3 on there, what am I suppose to do?

| ioi said: Which bugs, which tools, which clustered mess? |
I don´t know what others are bothered about, but my only problem with this site rigth now is what it actually has been known for, Software and Hardware tracking.
- Where are Tales of Graces 1st week numbers in France?
- Where is the God of War III and GT5 Prologue adjustments?
- Where are Darksiders PS3 numbers? they are gone
- Why is Ratchet and Clank colection not tracked in US? Why are the God of war Saga numbers not tracked? (Only talking about PS3 software tracking)
As for the Tools, we need Hardware cumulative graphs like we have for games.
I have absolutely no problem with the site as is when it comes to other things, because for me it is all about sales and talking about them in the forum.
It is obvious that the fact that this generation has been extented contributes to the lack of enthusiasm on sales, but I do believe that the lack of adjustments and detail on the numbers shown in this site, heavily contributes to this idea of "why should I bother talking about it" atitude. There is no "VGchartz has to be rigth all the time" atitude, we know that these numbers are not 100% rigth, but people feel the need of knowing that if there is oficial numbers out there, adjustments will be made imediatly, and not only when NPD arrives.
| ioi said: Which bugs, which tools, which clustered mess? As far as I'm concerned, it is business as normal on VGChartz. We have weekly data, we have regular sales articles, we have forums. I have posted numerous threads in the last few months asking for lists of issues / improvements and most have come back with nothing so I'm keen to learn what the "bugs" are that you mention? In terms of tools, a couple of months ago we added a bunch of the analysis tools back to the site (under the tools menu):
Are there any other specific tools you feel are missing? Finally, how is the database a clustered mess? As has been mentioned previously, the ability to follow and rate particular games has now been removed (since this has now been superceded by Gamewise) but your old collections still remain. Basic game entries and data now feed through from Gamewise - when a date is added there it will update on VGChartz - makes far more sense than trying to manage two databases at once. Other than that, I don't see an issue here? So yes, in terms of development / admin support then things are no different to how they have ever been. As has been explained in the past, we have been gradually streamlining and simplifying VGChartz back to a sales-focused site as it was back in 2006-2008 before we began expanding and "bloating" the site as many felt with new features - so a lot of non-sales functionality has now gone elsewhere as was the plan. But to answer your original question no, nobody has been abandoned. |
1: This user's post has been removed. Makes life miserable for everyone, and is supposedly a hyper simple fix if someone just opened up the code and flipped an option somewhere. Makes my job harder, i know that.
2: I haven't been able to add break lines in my sig for years, so i can separate the sig section from the bottom "tag" section.
3: User's ability to post in locked threads.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Not for those who requested a perma ban and wanted their old posts to be removed though.

I actually think this has been fixed now.
