" death knell of the IP " ... LOL .. thats the spirit! ... never give up... even if bayonetta2 was already in its grave...  hiliarious!

some people just dont get it.. and continue to be in lalaland.. even when hard facts are presented..

LOL totally gonna enjoy the next time this happens.. butthurt so good

"Butthurt"?  What are you talking about?  I never even finished the first game, it didn't really interest me.  Your reply is kind of childish, don't you think?  I was simply being objective.  Did you even read my post?  Very strange reply, I don't know what to make of this kind of thing.  It is kind of amusing, though.

Regardless, I will try to clarify for you.  I think it's a shame that they couldn't get Bayonetta 2 on all three systems.  I think it would have sold a lot of copies.  However, being on one system might not mean enough sales to ensure the IP keeps going.  Nintendo probably has the rights to publish the sequel, so it's likely going to be up to them.  Can you understand my meaning now?

You're amused.. Im amused! good then everyone is amused!

you speculate it would sell even more than the first.. I could very well speculate and say no it could not which is more logical than yours..  even you stated it yourself that it doesnt interest you..  so thats already -1 unit from a potential bayonetta 2 sale already.. the title was released on 2 consoles with a userbase of 100 million+ between them only selling less than 2 million(vgchartz) .. not likely man.. just no.

I'm sure could have found another publisher.

Clearly.  I mean it's not like they've said they bluntly stated the exact oppposite...

oh wait... they did say that.  That's what your replying to.

I mean, who BOTH has the money, and the willingness to publish someone elses IP, that wasn't particularly that big and likely didn't make a profit? (As seen by Sega not even wanting a part of it.)

Sure you get the publishing rights to Bayonetta 2... but 3+ is all Sega still.

Why wouldn't you fund new game with an IP you control, and would own if it succeeds?  Wouldn't be that hard to make a game as successful as Bayonetta.

Only reason Nintendo likely signed on is because it's a "steal" to help it's third party protfolio.

Based on Inaba's comments, I assume that Bayonetta 2 could have existed with a different publisher, but Nintendo was probably the only one that could fit Platinum's vision for a sequel. In other words, I bet Nintendo was markedly more accommodating than the other publishers Platinum Games pitched to.

The fact that they were already working with Nintendo on The Wonderful 101 surely helped to seal the deal.

I'm calling BS on this. At worst Bayonetta 2 would not happen NOW, but it would happen eventually. Most likely they Sega shopped it around, took bidders, and Nintendo paid the most. Other backers probably didn't think such a niche title was worth it, and they are probably right.

I'm happy to see the series continue but it's not my type of game. I played the demo and didn't care for it. What I think is strange is that Platinum took Nintendo's money while knowing it would alienate almost all the fans of the original. Most with only a Wii never played the original and most with only a PS360 aren't going to buy a Wii U just for Bayonetta 2. It's weird and regardless of how Platinum spins it I think the game would have been funded and published as a multiplatform game eventually.

Yeah, honestly, I'm not buying it as an absolute, either.  They might have spoken with Ninteno first, or Nintendo might have made the best offer, but I cannot believe that a new IP that sold nearly 2 million copies would not have a sequel made eventually, especially since it sounds like the game was pretty much completed already.  It would have happened.  Someone else would have jumped on this.  I just think it never went down the ladder very far and that Nintendo snapped it up early.

It will be interesting to see what happens with this.  Obviously SEGA is getting theirs somehow, or they never would have agreed to let someone else publish.  Platinum will obviously see less sales with this move, so I'm inclined to think they insured that Nintendo would be taking most of the risk.  Nintendo would probably even be fine with it under-performing, as I think they're mainly doing this to have an adult game they can use for show-and-tell.

It's a bit of a shame, as I think the Bayonetta IP could have grown by a large margin had it been on all three systems.  As it is now, if Bayonetta 2 compares poorly against the sales of the first game, then this might be the death knell of the IP.

LOL death of an IP?

Look at Final Fantasy when that shifted from Nintendo to Sony. It sure killed its sales. The fact it unlike the spoilt whinging kids these days, gamers of old moved to the platform their favourite game was on. Simple as that. If you are a true Bayonetta fan (GENRAL COMMENT TO ALL PEOPLE READING), then you will buy a WiiU, otherwise the game meant diddly squat to you in the first place.

Let me quote the first part of the sentence you bolded, because you seemed to have missed that.  It said "if Bayonetta 2 compares poorly against the sales of the first game."  I didn't say they WOULD, I said IF.  This is an unknown, we don't know how well the Bayonetta IP is going to do on a Nintendo console.  The first game did 2m on TWO consoles, and I suspect that Bayonetta 2 would have broken 3m had it been a 3-way multi-plat.

The Wii U defensiveness has gotten every bit as bad as the people who hate on it, perhaps worse. You can't speculate about a single thing about it unless it's completely flowers and unicorns.  This is getting crazy.  I didn't even say anything bad, for cat's sake, and would have just as many reservations if it was a 360 exclusive, and almost as many if it were a PS3 exclusive.  Either way, I think being on a single console might not give it enough sales for the IP to continue.  Even though it's not my cup of tea, I like seeing original IPs flourish and I hope it does just that.

Also, the whole "if you're a fan of Bayonetta then you'll buy a new $300 console" thing is kind of silly.  If that was the only thing they wanted a Wii U for, then they would have to be either rich or obsessive.  Better to just say it's the reality of the business and to just deal with it.  However, it IS completely reasonable for a person to express their displeasure to Platinum, that's what consumers are supposed to do, just as long as they do so in a mature way.

I definitely agree that both extremes in this argument have retreated behind their fortifications and are lobbing grenades at each other, while the majority of gamers either have no idea what Bayonetta 2 is, or are just happy it exists at all.

However, I think you might be underestimating the power of a single game in pushing someone to buy a new console. About four years ago, I was very seriously considering buying an Xbox 360, but the thing that pushed me over the edge was the announcement of a new Banjo-Kazooie game. Since Xbox was the only way I could play one of my favorite series, I picked up the console. Banjo-Kazooie turned out a lot differently than I imagined, but I certainly don't regret the purchase. I had a similar reaction to Beyond Good & Evil 2, although that was never released (dear God I hope it will be some day).

So Bayonetta might only cause a few diehard fans to pick up a Wii U, but once they've invested in the console who knows what will happen? Since I bought my Xbox I've invested quite a bit of money into it, in terms of games, accessories, and Xbox Live subscriptions.

In any event, I think it was a very smart decision by Nintendo. And I'm going to have to take Platinum at their word, in the absence of contradictory evidence.

Die Hard fans is exactly the people I was refering to and not regular gamer who will not care either way if a game is there or not. Same thing happened with Final Fantasy. If that did not shift consoles I probably would have never purchased a playsation. THen later other games peaked my interest.

The ones making the most noise are the die hard fans.

If it is not die hard fans it is simple trolls trying to find another reason to bash the Wii U.

I have no problem people being upset and voicing their opinions to the developer.

BUT:

- Saying they will kill themselves?

- Saying they will nto play the first oen ever again?

- Telling the developer to fuck of and die?

- Stupid other threads?

this is beyond showing your upset.

Oh, I didn't mean to target your post specifically. I was only lamenting the general animosity that is going on here and elsewhere.

I think diehard fans of Bayonetta who had no intention of buying a Wii U have every right to be frustrated. But I'll just share my reaction to Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, and Beyond Good & Evil 2, which helped push me toward buying an Xbox.

My first reaction was surprise and happiness. I had loved Banjo-Kazooie on my N64, and I had loved BG&E on my Gamecube. So I was incredibly excited that there would be sequels. When I saw they would be limited to Xbox or PS3, I was disappointed, but still very happy that at least I would have the opportunity to play them.

So, yes, I do think the behavior you cited above is unreasonable.

And I think true diehard Bayonetta fans will be happy at the news, if a little frustrated and disappointed.

FIrst, Platinum is not an indy studio, Bayonetta sales were decent...and if the first publisher they ran to after SEGA cancelled decided to go with the game than I'm sure someone else would have.

You don't now if they went to other publisher, and Platinum games would surely never say that Sony or Microsoft refused to help them.
