Forums - Nintendo - Platinum: Without Nintendo, There Would Be No Bayonetta 2

I like how this thread has turned into a wish list of games that people would like to see Nintendo lose money on.

There's a new Mana game incoming, Nintendo doesn't need to do anything.

The thing that they can do is fund more sega projects, since sega recently announced a global fat trimming.

I would 'like' that if I could.

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

#correction :)

"The announcment of Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U sent shockwaves through the gaming world"

More like: the announcment made some people smash their heads on tables (which is something only idiots do) and that created shockwaves not the announcment itself .

Other than that finally a statement that clarifies this for people who couldn't tell...

Maybe we should write a letter to Nintendo.
IMO we must make it clear to them that fans rather have no sequel, then a Nintendo-published sequel... LOL...

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

I'm calling BS on this. At worst Bayonetta 2 would not happen NOW, but it would happen eventually. Most likely they Sega shopped it around, took bidders, and Nintendo paid the most. Other backers probably didn't think such a niche title was worth it, and they are probably right.

I'm happy to see the series continue but it's not my type of game. I played the demo and didn't care for it. What I think is strange is that Platinum took Nintendo's money while knowing it would alienate almost all the fans of the original. Most with only a Wii never played the original and most with only a PS360 aren't going to buy a Wii U just for Bayonetta 2. It's weird and regardless of how Platinum spins it I think the game would have been funded and published as a multiplatform game eventually.

Yeah, honestly, I'm not buying it as an absolute, either.  They might have spoken with Ninteno first, or Nintendo might have made the best offer, but I cannot believe that a new IP that sold nearly 2 million copies would not have a sequel made eventually, especially since it sounds like the game was pretty much completed already.  It would have happened.  Someone else would have jumped on this.  I just think it never went down the ladder very far and that Nintendo snapped it up early.

It will be interesting to see what happens with this.  Obviously SEGA is getting theirs somehow, or they never would have agreed to let someone else publish.  Platinum will obviously see less sales with this move, so I'm inclined to think they insured that Nintendo would be taking most of the risk.  Nintendo would probably even be fine with it under-performing, as I think they're mainly doing this to have an adult game they can use for show-and-tell.

It's a bit of a shame, as I think the Bayonetta IP could have grown by a large margin had it been on all three systems.  As it is now, if Bayonetta 2 compares poorly against the sales of the first game, then this might be the death knell of the IP.

" death knell of the IP " ... LOL .. thats the spirit! ... never give up... even if bayonetta2 was already in its grave...  hiliarious!

some people just dont get it.. and continue to be in lalaland.. even when hard facts are presented..

LOL totally gonna enjoy the next time this happens.. butthurt so good

It will probably sell less than the original, but that doesn't matter, because at least the series continues and grows under Nintendo.

For example, Xenoblade hasn't sold so much. Mind you it is a console-end game:

"Butthurt"?  What are you talking about?  I never even finished the first game, it didn't really interest me.  Your reply is kind of childish, don't you think?  I was simply being objective.  Did you even read my post?  Very strange reply, I don't know what to make of this kind of thing.  It is kind of amusing, though.

Regardless, I will try to clarify for you.  I think it's a shame that they couldn't get Bayonetta 2 on all three systems.  I think it would have sold a lot of copies.  However, being on one system might not mean enough sales to ensure the IP keeps going.  Nintendo probably has the rights to publish the sequel, so it's likely going to be up to them.  Can you understand my meaning now?

So it's confirmed now. Not that this will stop the hate, haters are immune to logic and reason.

That is one of the best statements I've heard in a long time. Can I put it on a shirt?

...King's Quest, Space Quest...

Activision owns those now after they bought Vivendi and Sierra was closed up. I can't see them ever giving up those two franchises, even if they haven't made a new one in...what, 10 years? More?

Yeah, I was just throwing out some old names for fun, putting aside the consyraints for a moment. Another thing though, IPs can be bought.

Oh, yeah, minus constraints, those two would be great! Heh, alas though, Activision is so tight fisted.

I can't think of any other franchises I'd love to see saved beyond those already mentioned...

King's Quest will return (I hope already in 2013)

The makers of Space Quest will return as well, with a new game called "SpaceVenture" which will be very similar to Space Quest

Hmm...now I'm intrigued. Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to look into both of those.
