I would like King's Quest, Space Quest, Bubsy the Bobcat, the 2D disney games we had (Lion King, Aladdin), Pitfall...

Activision owns those now after they bought Vivendi and Sierra was closed up. I can't see them ever giving up those two franchises, even if they haven't made a new one in...what, 10 years? More?

Yeah, I was just throwing out some old names for fun, putting aside the consyraints for a moment. Another thing though, IPs can be bought.

Oh, yeah, minus constraints, those two would be great! Heh, alas though, Activision is so tight fisted.
I can't think of any other franchises I'd love to see saved beyond those already mentioned...

Most likely they Sega shopped it around, took bidders, and Nintendo paid the most. Other backers probably didn't think such a niche title was worth it, and they are probably right. I'm happy to see the series continue but it's not my type of game. I played the demo and didn't care for it. What I think is strange is that Platinum took Nintendo's money while knowing it would alienate almost all the fans of the original. Most with only a Wii never played the original and most with only a PS360 aren't going to buy a Wii U just for Bayonetta 2. It's weird and regardless of how Platinum spins it I think the game would have been funded and published as a multiplatform game eventually. |
Yeah, honestly, I'm not buying it as an absolute, either. They might have spoken with Ninteno first, or Nintendo might have made the best offer, but I cannot believe that a new IP that sold nearly 2 million copies would not have a sequel made eventually, especially since it sounds like the game was pretty much completed already. It would have happened. Someone else would have jumped on this. I just think it never went down the ladder very far and that Nintendo snapped it up early.
It will be interesting to see what happens with this. Obviously SEGA is getting theirs somehow, or they never would have agreed to let someone else publish. Platinum will obviously see less sales with this move, so I'm inclined to think they insured that Nintendo would be taking most of the risk. Nintendo would probably even be fine with it under-performing, as I think they're mainly doing this to have an adult game they can use for show-and-tell.
It's a bit of a shame, as I think the Bayonetta IP could have grown by a large margin had it been on all three systems. As it is now, if Bayonetta 2 compares poorly against the sales of the first game, then this might be the death knell of the IP.

I'll get my own Wii U eventually anyways, but I hope Nintendo lets it go multiplat some day for the fans.

Nintendo needs to stop playin and put Golden Sun on consoles.
On Wii U it has the potential to blow up like a propane tank.
Leatherhat on July 6th, 2012 3pm. Vita sales:"3 mil for COD 2 mil for AC. Maybe more. " thehusbo on July 6th, 2012 5pm. Vita sales:"5 mil for COD 2.2 mil for AC."

The summons, the unleashes, the enemy design. All of that on the Wii U, and the next golden sun would be game of the year.
Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD
