Platinum: Without Nintendo, There Would Be No Bayonetta 2

Posted Sat, 22 Sep 2012 | 23:15 BST by Damien McFerran

Right place, right time

The announcment of Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U sent shockwaves through the gaming world, causing lovers of the original to cry foul and forcing Platinum Games to publish a statement which insisted that the release was not an attempt to snub existing fans.

Card-carrying Otaku may wish to look away now, as the developer has admitted that without Nintendo, the sequel wouldn't be happening at all - not even on Xbox 360 or PS3.

Speaking to The Verge at the recent Tokyo Game Show, executive director Atsushi Inaba said:

Would Bayonetta 2 not exist without Nintendo? The answer is yes.

We are not viewing this as a change of platform. We were looking for a partner to create Bayonetta 2 and Nintendo was a strong, cooperative partner that was willing to create and grow Bayonetta 2 together [with us]. As a result the platform became the Wii U.

So there you have it. Without Nintendo and the Wii U, Bayonetta's story would have been limited to a single game.

I guessed this by the fact SEGA was going through some hard times earlier this year and was forced to restructure. Just shortly after, news leaked out that there was a possibility Bayonetta 2 was in development at one point and ultimately cancelled. I'm guessing this is when Nintendo came in to act as publisher.

So it's confirmed now. Not that this will stop the hate, haters are immune to logic and reason.

what are you trying to do ?.. rubbing more salt to the butthurt..

I think this been posted a few times already..

Save Rare too, Nintendo. Get Camelot to work on the next Golden Sun too please.

On topic, this may get me to play the series, assuming Nintendo convinces Platinum games to port the first one over.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

" Are there any Nintendo producers working on Bayonetta 2. I know it's a common practice for games they publish?

Yup. RT"

Yeah, now there's no doubt, it's exclusive. I just hope they release the first one, with some extra gimmicks if possible. Most probably they will.

I thought this was obvious, but now that there is a real confirmation the haters don't have any excuses

I can't find the 'like' or 'thumbs-up' buttom for this comment.

I love My Wii U, and the potential it brings to gaming.

That's what I'm thinking. I hope Nintendo will use this as some kind of strategy for getting 3rd parties on the Wii U, i.e. by saving/publishing good but underfunded games and developers.

It is shame they had to state the obvious. Sadly, Nintendo haters will try to twist this somehow.
