Can the Wii U sell 100 million consoles?

Yes, easily. More like 120 million! 51 14.87%

Yes, just reach the elusive milestone. 39 11.37%

Maybe. Too early to call! 127 37.03%

No chance it will reach 100 million! 126 36.73%

Total:343

Too early to tell. The apparent rush on pre-orders did mildly caught me by surprise, so as of now I think I will agree it will sell 80m lifetime. Doing great, but not matching Wii. Let's see if that changes after the first few weeks worth of numbers are in.

No, I doubt even Wii will hit it.

It's practically there.

If this holiday doesn't get it there, early next year it will. Even if they just 'fizzle' out the Wii, it will end between 105-110 at least. Also, if Nintendo is adamant on their new resolution to sell the Wii in South America and Eastern Europe, it can even go on to sell 120m. Nah, the days of PS1's #2 position (or #4, depends on if you count handhelds) are numbered.

The WiiU won't significantly impact the Wii's sales, people out to buy a Wii aren't in the market for the WiiU anyway. The other way around is also true.

Wii barely sells. Lol @ 120m.

Wii will definitely sell in 'new' markets it hasn't been to yet. Why do you think PS2 got to 150m?

Wii is no PS2, PS2 sold 33% of its total shipments this gen. Wii barely sells anymore, it will not start selling. Sony is active in more markets than Nintendo.

First of all, yes, I believe that Wii is capable of selling 100M units. It could take years, but it will happen.

But I see no way that Wii U will sell even close to that amount. Let's look at the appeal of the Wii. It offered a new gameplay experience never before seen. It was something that no one saw coming, and that's the reason it sparked such enthusiasm and excitement.

Wii U, on the other hand, simply uses existing technology that everyone already has on their phones and tablets. Touch-based, and multi-screen gameplay isn't inspiring as much imagination in gamers and developers alike. Instead of setting itself apart from current gameplay options, it is borrowing from the market that already exists.

It wasn't the hardware capabilities of the Wii that pushed sales, nor will it be a determining factor for Wii U sales. The one and only sales hook is something that isn't actually new or progressive.

I don't see Wii U selling more than 50-60M units in its lifetime, unless there is a drastic price cut as some point (not unlike what happened with the 3DS). I see the situation with the Wii U much more similar to the 3DS than I do with Wii. Consumers aren't sure why they should go all in without a more appealing price or many more games that they've never seen before.

Yes that was the point. If Nintendo would also sell in these regions like Reggie has been insinuating recently it will sell more.

I wasn't debating Wii = PS2, excuse me if that wasn't clear. It's obvious those numbers are way out of reach by now. I don't think it's unreachable for the Wii to have about 17% extra sales total during next Gen (100m this Gen, 20m during the next) with the help of these new markets.

We'll see I guess.

The Wii hasn't hit 100mil yet so don't think the Wii U will..I'd say thw Wii U will sell 60-80 mil....

I think it could easily... As long as the good news keeps up about all this 3rd party support and great games from Nintendo.

I think the TVii will attract casuals again.

In the past 30 years they were never active in those markets. I don't see them selling Wii now, this late with all focus on WiiU, and Sony's dominance in those markets.

The Wii started with a rush hitting 60 odd million in its first 3 years with 20 million sales in 2007, 2008 and 2009. It was well on pace to outsell the PS2 but the Wii lost momentum as the competition 360 and PS3 launched upgraded Slim models and lowered their  price points.

The Wii U will have 12 to 18 months lead over the PS4 and the XBox 720 and it should set up a lead of around 20 million units. The Wii U price can be lowered as it enters its third year making it more attractive than the higher priced PS4 and Next Box. Wii U will be attractive to third party developers critical for long term success.

Wii U will become the fourth system to reach 100 million sales target following in the footseps of PS1, PS2 and Wii.

You do know that ps2 was under 100 mill also.. when ps3 came out.. = the wii is not done selling yet..

WiiU has the potentiale to hit 200 mill.. Nintendo tvii.. can get people in who dont even play videogames..

In fact it's stange that no one yet had called it a pc (apple) killer.. it can do every thing windows can (what 90% of people are using theire pc for)... just much prettyer and smoother.. both on the tv.. and upad.. and its cheap.. much more potentialle than wii..
