I haven't read the last 67 posts. What's going on?!? Someone update me! I'm bored and I want in on this action!!!

DaRev said that we have to follow God's rules because it's his world and that if you believe in Lincoln, you have to believe in God.

Everyone else disagrees.

As usual, OoSnap is nowhere to be found.

ha ha well it looks like its 'me against the world baby'. But I got a secret weapon,....shhh I actaully know what I'm talking about, unlike those opponents in here talking out their butts. Trying to debate something they have not studied or have no experience about, lol. I really dond't get it, how do non-religious people expect to debate religion with a religious person and expect to win? ha ha, you all should stick to talking about games.

I was Christian for 16 years, went to a Christian pre-school and visited church every Sunday throughout my childhood. Surely that's a sufficient amount of experience.

really? well maybe and maybe not.I was a Christian growing up as well, but didn't practice Christianity, i.e. reading my bible, praying, fellowshiping etc, until recently. And all my years of being a 'christian' didn't teach me a thing (well almost nothing). So the amount of time you spend being a 'christian' means almost nothing. It's what you have been doing with that time, those 16 plus years that's important.

So, what have you been doing, as a christian for those 16 years, just being a bench warmer?

I was also a rather devout christian for 16 years.  I was pretty hardcore.  I went to church, prayed, got involved, etc.  Then as I grew up, I matured and realized 2 major problems with faith:  1 - I didn't need a divine father figure supposedly watching over me to do good things and care about fellow man; and 2 - The more I looked into science the more I Realized how much in the bible was physically impossible and had no logical foothold.

Once I got over those two things, there was absolutely nothing about religion I found appealing, so I left it in my childhood, where fairy tales belong.

Well, I don't agree with that either.  I've known too many great people with vastly different belief systems to believe that a fair and just Creator would allow a majority of the world to burn.  The good news about that is that each evangelical religion believes that members of its special club will be saved, so there is some disagreement about the specifics of the matter.

That is why I make a point to study as many religious and philisophical veiwpoints as possible... because logic tells us that it is the common beliefs held by the world (rathar than the disparate) that are more likely illuminate the absolute truth.  As a Platonist, I am not a fan of moral relativism.

As for those people, their words and thoughts against you can do nothing to harm you, and (only in your response) will they get any satisfaction.

I have to say, it's awesome to see someone who thinks like that on here. I'm purposefully trying to avoid religion-related threads now because I end up getting carried away by the argument, but I'm glad to see that there are people who share this kind of ideological stance with me.

You can be a christian for 25 years and have no clue about Christianity for example scholarly works and Theology.

Most people who go to church unless they have someone that actual knows anything about scholar articles and did any research usually have pseudo-undertsanding of the bible.

"I didn't need a divine father figure supposedly watching over me to do good things and care about fellow man"

This is a good example of fundamentalism because it's clear you have no idea what God(christian) is about. God isn't about watching over you and treating your fellow man. The purpose of being a Christian is the serve God ( messages put in God) and spread the message with apologetics( not personal testimony)( On Jesus Coming BACK from the grave).

"The more I looked into science the more I Realized how much in the bible was physically impossible and had no logical foothold"

How? Please Explain?

"Once I got over those two things, there was absolutely nothing about religion I found appealing, so I left it in my childhood, where fairy tales belong. "

Seem you just didn't look up or research anything you choose to just be ignorant and wasting  your brain cells because you thought you knew everything even though you knew nothing?

This sounds like fundamentalism it's just that now you're not Chrisian fundamentalist you're now an atheist funamentalist.

To sum up this thread:

Don't agree with me? Well then you are a pile of a lack of virtue that deserves every single bad thing I can imagine hurled upon you because you don't agree with me. Let's see, I have hell, so thus, you will go to hell. I value intellect, so OBVIOUSLY you are dumb, and it is incredible you believe such nonsense.

Mind you, there are exceptions, but what I stated is where the thread is heading.

In regards to religion, I wish things would be kept as simple as this:

James 1:27

New International Version (NIV)

27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Agreed, it is far too easy to get drawn into these threads, and (I must admit) I have been drawn into threads here that are quite a bit less potentially philosophical on these boards, and I have not always thought enough about my words before posting.

As far as the viewpoint I mentioned (searching for truth in commonality), I agree with you there as well... in that there are amazing aspects of this world that can be seen if they are not intentionally ignored - be it due to conflicting idealogy or not.

Ok, were do you think the laws in your little start-up country came from. Do you have laws against killing people, how about laws aganst stealing, do you have sex with little girls in your country or you screw animals in your country?  I'm sure your country has laws agaisnt that kind of stuff (but if it doesn't please do tell). Well, guess what, those laws and many others in your country were BORROWED from God. lol

Actually, laws and rules would come up regardless of there being a god. After being around for a certain amount of time, society would recognize actions which hurt the society (killing, stealing, raping) and would naturally work towards trying to prevent such things. You don't need a God to be moral.

Actaully, that doesn't negate the FACT that God created his law before anyone elses laws. If not so then Prove it!

You seem to suggest that the only way to determine if a religion is 'true' or not is by digging deep and studying every facet of the religion. If that is true, if that's the only way to tell if a religion is true or not, then it's literally impossible to find the true religion. Using your logic, one should research every single religion in the world because that's the only way to tell if it's true or not. Do you know how many religions are in the world? Dozens, Maybe hundreds. And if it takes years and years of studying to fully learn about one religion, then how long would it take you to learn about every religion? Several Lifetimes, I bet. The chances of you finding the correct religion within one lifetime is 0%. There's always going to be another religion worth several years of studying to validate it.

Nope, truth is truth, there cannot be more than one truth, truth either agrees with truth or its not true or all the truth. You don't have to study every religion, pal, just study the true one. If you think the true one is, e.g. Islam, then go study that, which I'm sure if you did, WITH AN OPEN MIND you would run into some untruths. Christianity on the other is truth, study that WITH AN OPEN MIND, and I'm sure if you did you you will only find truth. Truth it is better to love your fellow man, truth!

Now, because Christianity is truth, there is no need study anything else, because you have already found the truth, so why look for it somewhere else? E.g if H2O = Water or E = mc2, why you going to look for that truth again, when you already found it?

I did pray every night before I went to bed, and thanked God before each dinner. I was also well-known for being pretty much the only one in my class who never ever said or did anything bad to others, and the teachers sometimes asked all others to follow my lead.

Still, all of this is beside the topic, and you still haven't answered my first post that was aimed at you.

ha ha, my 3 year old son prays every night and we always take him to church, but I doubt that makes him a Christian, even if he would do that until he is 16 or even 60, and he is a good kid, like many kids. But that doesn't make one a christian or make one fit to debate christianity or religion. Lawyers, teachers, doctors, musician, writers, even GAMERS spend many years at their craft before they can properly debate things - christianity or religion is the same. Go read your bible.

What first post? About WiiU being a christian for 16 years?
