Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Are you passing up on Wii U FPS titles due to lack of IR pointer... BLOPS 2 IR!!!!

I'm wondering how many of you in here are like: IR controls >>>>>>> dual analog.

For me, dual analog is the reason why I never cared about the FPS genre on consoles. Just played Black on PS2 because it was a really amazing game, Far Cry on Xbox 1 because it completely blew everything else away back in the time, and a Turok game on Gamecube because it had crazy multiplayer up to 4 people.

While I enjoyed those games, I always felt frustrated by the controls. Dual analog for me becomes a pain in the ass when you want to quickly pin point something at the screen. Such a thing didn't happen on mouse controls and I always thought: FPS's are just lame on consoles.

When the Wii came out, even playing the Mediocre Red Steel made me love FPS games instantly. Now I can't go back to dual analog ever.

That's why I'm worried about lack of comments from developers about supporting the good old wiimote and nunchuk on upcoming Wii shooters.

As far as things go, I'd like to play ZombiU and Aliens Colonial Marines, but having a fancy touchscreen and fancy mechanics around the new controller doesn't make up for the fact it is still dual analog set up.

So, how many of you Wii FPS hipsters are worried too about this ?

UPDATE1

Blacks Ops II Wii U supports Wiimote IR controls, not yet fully confirmed.

I wouldn't say Point >>>>>>> Dual Analog, but I do love my pointer shooter experiences, and so I wouldn't want them out altogether, I just want a more balanced diet, and especially the option.

I personally loved MP3.

Every competitive fps game i played on the wii was lackluster and part of the problem imo were the controls, so I think i would feel the opposite. If there were more motion control shooters I would be worried but even then, Nintendo's poor commitment to online multiplayer makes me avoid these experiences on nintendo platforms altogether.

I imagine at least CoD Wii U will use the pointer. Hopefully.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Yep.

But apart of Activision I don't see anyone else going for those controls. Unfortunatelly.

Me.

Going back to dual analogue now feels as clumsy as using a D-Pad to move in 3D space. (A la pre-dualshock PS1)

I won't be buying any Wii U FPS games that don't support Pointer controls.

Actually, having spent a lot of time with th gyroscope in RE: Revelations on 3DS, I can say with 100% certainty that I'd be perfectly happy with just the gyro (not that I'd turn my nose up at the IR since, as others noted, it simply crushes dual analog).

No problem, for 3rd parties I have mouse+keyboard which I personally like more than the analog controls and IR pointer, but for first party games (maybe Metroid Prime 4?) I will definitely miss the Wiimote, it would be nice if the developers add the option for the games, even if it means not using the GamePad touch screens.

Hell no, Ir controls have little to do with the actual quality of the game, if its fun it doesnt really matter how you control it as long as the game is fun. IR controls could make a good game better (Killzone3) but not a a bad or mediocore game good(conduit, farcry vengeance)
