still needs a gaming computer to make it worth while = also who is going to seriously take their computer and plug it into their TV when they want to game then unplug it and back into your monitor when you want to do anything else.

pcs do support multiple monitors so you can leave them hooked up and just change options on your desktop wether to display both or only one of the creens.

that thread went funny.

what can you do know? you can, if you are someone like me, connect your tv with your pc like before and don't have to use your mouse and keyboard first on the steam interface just to use a controller when you start the game and switch back to mouse/keyboard on the steam interface and bla.

next improvement is that most couldn't really use steam on their tv because everything was too small then. yes a tv screen is bigger but the viewing distance is too big for most so they can't really use pc interfaces on their tv without big problems to read the text. this isn't a problem anymore now.

they also implemented a browser which you can use on your tv with your controller if you want to use that.

that's it, for people like me it is an appreciated improvement, for others it's useless, like so much on this planet, some need it and some not.

I know, that is a lot of effort.

@jlrx: How was this possible before? It wasn't, because they just made this interface available...

I agree 100% this is new and allows you to use a controller to navigate steam, and the web, etc, got that, its true.

However outside of that, this is being promoted as some gigantic new ability to use steam on your TV from your couch (already possible), to the point that the button looks like a full screen button and says "Big picture". The whole interface could have been done and promoted on its controller integration within steam (still up to individual games to support said controller properly) could have been called something else entirely as I already have used steam on a big tv, to play games with a controller, and in 1080p.

Again, I get its using the controller for alot more within steam itself, thats fine for someone who wants to do that, even if I don't see the value of typing and searching with a controller to begin with, I just think it's a bit false on how the feature (Big Picture) is being promoted.

good god, gamers hate everything that is new, its just an option , stop bitching.
you don't want your favourite hobby to grow and innovate?

PC gaming turning into console gaming? No thanks. We have suffered enough, its time for healing and a return to sanity. Controllers are good for certain things, and the mouse/kb are best for alot of things, including FPS games.

That can be argued forever, but this is war.

Sounds nice, I've always thought that hooking up a PC to a TV would make a better console experience than the HD twins.

Then again, PC gamin is the best gaming. With old school consoles a close second.

I LOVE ICELAND!

Wow! Way too many stupid posts here! It seems that people prefer to complain, instead of reading and learning what is this all about.

It's basically a new interface that enables you to operate everything with your gaming controller, so you don't need to get off your couch. If you prefer, you can continue using Steam as before.

Already tried it, and I think it's pretty cool! Typing with Daisywheel is great! The web browser sucks though, but it's just on beta.

It's the "Watch out, consoles" part. Sets up news of a small feature add as something antagonistic. When you antagonize people, they push back.

Meh.... This'll cater to a pretty small branch of gamers I would think; single men in their 20's.

why would you think that?

Thi is the one of the steps needed to make pc gaming easier for casuals. I think its a good thing. Casuals are used to download services now because of things like itunes and marketplaces on tabs. Now th ey need steam to run on tablets (windows 8) and they have a portable console that can be hooked up to a tv. who doesn't want that? Thats been my plan atleast. just have to wait for tablets that are powerful enough.

Well, cuz most teen agers don't have a big ass TV all for themselves (well, what do I know? It's been a while since I was a teen ager - perhaps they all do have TV's in their rooms now), so they can't spend hours and hours browesing the internet using BigPicture. And the same goes for gamers in their 30's; they got gf's and kids and all - they won't be able to relax in the couch with BP since everyone else will want to use the TV. And that leaves gamers in their 20's - and most of us hook up with a girl and settle down before we turn 30... so it'll propably be gamers between 18 and 25 using this...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I wonder if this was part of why Tim Cook (Apple CEO) was visiting Valve HQ a few months ago:

I don't think Apple gives a hoot about making a game console, but letting people wirelessly play the games on their iOS devices and iMac/Macbook on a TV screen with a TV friendly interface?

Yup that I could see.

I think something is coming, too much smoke for there not to be a fire somewhere. The convergance of the PC and the television is going to happen in a real way within the next 5 years I think.
