Forums - Gaming - Report: Vivendi still looking to sale Activision Blizzard; Sony not interested, Microsoft haggling price

8 euro = 10.238 USD. If there are a billion gamers (which i highly doubt) everyone would need to throw in $10.24. More likely than not there are less than 300 million console gamers in the world. And only a small minority (40 million perhaps?) would care about CoD/WoW. So more like 260 dollars each.

Also, wouldnt it be more likely to sell off divisions and IP of the company

8 billion to buy the Call of Duty franchise seems pretty steep to me.

Microsoft already has a big name FPS franchise, do they need another one. Besides COD and WOW hit their peak already, and both franchises re on the decline. Vivendi should lower their price.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Stay strong MS

I love mention of Sony and Microsoft, as if they're the only ones able to buy them...

Not just Nintendo, but many other companies out there could buy them (Google, Apple, ubisoft, who knows). It's just weird the fanboyism in this industry's journalism.

Ubisoft is worth less than  $1 billion total, while Nintendo has only $5 billion cash in the bank (with Nintendo having lost money for the last 5 consecutive quarters their not going to want to get into the amount of debt necessary to buy a 60 % stake in Activision).  Sony on the other hand has $8 billion in the bank while Microsoft has even more.  The simple fact is Activiosion Blizzard has the 3rd highest market cap of any direct gaming company with only Microsoft and Nintendo higher but of all existing companies in gaming only Sony or Microsoft can afford Vivendi's 60% of Activision.

Yes there are companies with the money out there but why would they want it?

MS has about $70bn cash, so truthfully they're the only company up that can afford to buy it that actually has something to gain from buying it. I'm sure google and apple don't want anything to do with it. Anyway, if MS does buy it they should give CoD a release on X360/720 a week before it becomes available on PS3/4. This would be much more beneficial than making CoD an X360/720 exclusive as they wouldnt lose out on any sales and instead there would be a gradual hardware marketshare shift as PS3/4 CoD gamers would slowly switch to owning X360/720's. Overall, due to this, I think it would be a smart thing for MS to buy this, but they need to negotiate the price downwards a little first.

I just realised that for ~$1bn more Microsoft could actually buy all the shares in Sony...wow.

When you want to takeover a company, you need to offer a higher price than the actual market value, sometimes as high as 5 or 6 times the market cap if there is a bidding war.

That is usually true when someone wants control and makes a offer  , in this case the majority owner is shopping it and has debt concerns of it's own and there isn't much interest  .so the party with the negotiating strength here is the potential buyer.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Why sell a profitable unit? Shut down the un[profitable units and trade your way out of debt.

I'll never understand companies who sell off income generating units to pay off some debt. To me it looks like a poorly run company, and rather than sell off assets they should clean out their management and get in people who can actually run the company at a dect profit.

i'm still not sure about it, mw3 was not very beloved even under cod fans and at least for ps3, blops 2 preorders seem to be very good, for xbox not exactly as good as the last cod but i would say that's because of halo which should take some of the sales (cod obviously also takes halo sales). people always say that about cod the last months but i don't really know why they are so sure about that.

I would have loved to see their conversation with SONY

Vivendi: So, you interested?
SCE: Well, it's an interesting company. Nice IPs, good talent, decent yearly earnings.
Vivendi: Lol. I know right?
SCE: So, what's your price?
Vivendi: I cheap 8 billion euro and we cool.
SCE: ... that's 801.504 billion yen... lol. You're good, man. Almost had me.
Vivendi: So what da ya say?
SCE: Wait, you're serious?
Vivendi: Of cou-
SCE: Get the fuck out.
