Yep, took a lot to get him on board though.

It was a good excuse to kick Biden out of a prime spot though.

Did it? I didn't hear anything about how they wrangled him. I just figured he did it because he enjoys doing it and he hates Obama after all that shit in the 2008 primary and enjoyed having him in his debt (not to mention making him wait behind that curtain while he went over time) and that he's tired of how people fawn all over that stiff Barry and he wanted to remind them of what it was like when the president had real charisma and that it was its own reward.

Plus if he refused it would alienate the party and harm the chances of Hillary ever being president. I know she's rapidly aging and all, but I still think she still has designs on being the first prez of the ladyfolk persuasion even if she claims otherwise.

Debateable.

And I think Bill would agree with me.

EDIT: Also, this.

In terms of spending, Clinton was the best modern President. (of course, you have to take into account all sorts of shit to do with fuzzy numbers... I'll take these for now, though_

From what i've read it's been about 3 years worth of Obama trying to win Bill back over... as can be seen by him torpedoing Obama's attack adds as of 3 months ago.

The second day of the DNC has completed and there were a number of different speakers. One of the speakers that is getting a lot of buzz for his forceful defense of president Obama. There is no doubt that Bill Clinton has a high likeability factor and can craft and deliver very convincing speeches. His speech was direct and full of political wonk about policies. Some famous lines: He stated basically that no president could fix the mess in just 4 years. He also said , "If you want a winner-take-all, you're-on-your-own society, you should support the Republican ticket," Clinton said. "If you want a country of shared opportunities and shared responsibilities, a 'we're-all-in-it-together' society, you should vote for Barack Obama and Joe Biden." Another line he said was, "he has laid the foundation for a new modern successful economy, a shared prosperity and if you will renew the president's contract, you will feel it."

Clinton is probably one of the best political speakers. The problems I had is that what he was arguing for more of a "collective" type society with larger government to solve solutions but he delicately wrapped it up in more friendly  wording and rhetoric. He also tried to draw a contrast with his presidency and the Obama presidency. In my personal view the problem is Obama is not running on the Clinton record. When Clinton won the presidency in 1992 he had democratic controll of congress. Many argue for Clinton's first two years he tried to run the country on a more left agenda. Then in 1994 mid term elections the Democrats lost control in both House and Senate. Many see that Clinton then began to govern more from the center and was able to work with the Republicans in congress on certain reforms and policies. The Republicans held control of congress through the rest of the Clinton presidency. Clinton had to work with the Republican controlled congress in order to make deals. The problem is during the Obama presidency the average American dosn't see any working together between the Republican House, Democrat Senate, and Obama. So its hard to draw a comparison at this point in time between the Clinton presidency and the Obama presidency. It was a good speech by Clinton that likely rallied the base and maybe convinced some leaning Obama Independants, but the speech was very long, and filled with a lot of policy wonk that may fly over the heads of average viewers. Not to mention Clinton's ability to make a bad policy sound good.

We belong to the government

If you want to have "We the people" and have it so that there is a representative democracy, as opposed to elect the oligarchys, you are going to have a government that reflects the collective will of the people.  You throw in that rights to prevent individuals from getting crushed.  In this, there is a symbiotic relationship, with the government belonging to the people, and in exchange, people expected to follow what the government says.  Of course, one is free to believe this doesn't exist, consider the concept of social contracts absurd, and do their own thing. One can also believe in unregulated markets where consequences govern everything, and not preventive rules of law with law enforcement.  One is free to think they live in a world where they built everything on their own, and got no help, and owe nothing back.  One can also try to persuade most people to go with this.  However, the reality is this: Most people don't consider that real, and do believe there are things called "nation" where people rise and fall together.  I am sure elites, divas, and people with unbridled egos think this isn't so, but it is.

So, anyone see The Onion's report on Obama's speech? Not good if you support traditional Christian values...

CHARLOTTE, NC—With the savage roar of the heathen Democratic horde rising all around him, President Barack Obama delivered an incendiary speech to close his party’s national convention Thursday night, commanding the ultraprogressive minions in attendance to help him “destroy Jesus and usher in a new age of liberal darkness that shall reign o’er the earth for a thousand years.”

Truth be told, if it wasn't for Clinton the big thing coming out of the DNC probably would of been the arguements over God and Jerusalem.

Don't quite get the Democratic strategy for the election.  Which seems to be "burn bridges with all morderates, including a lot of conservative Democratic politicians we've spent a lot of time winning over.

Electoral map wise a Romney win seems unlikely, but Obama sure seems hell bent on making it close.

That's because no strategy exists beyond pseudo-religious hucksterism and promising free shit to all the various Democratic constituencies. The party has gone completely insane, and aside from the holy sacrament that is abortion, it doesn't really seem to stand for anything anymore except for clinging to power for power's own sake.

The final night of the DNC has ended in which President Obama gave a defense of his presidency and tried to cast a vision for America's future. He had some punch lines on Romney, and very much tried to make the case that this was a "choice" election between two different plans and two different futures for America. There were some that said his speech did not have the usual lofty rhetoric but it got the job done. I however have also heard others say they thought it was one of the most "empty" feeling speeches they have heard Obama give. I thought actually in terms of delivery Joe Biden actually gave a better speech than Obama. And many thought Obama would one up Romney (who didn't have much details other than a 5 point plan in his speech) by giving details of his plans during his speech. He however seemed to only give goals of what his visions and hopes are in certain aspects of the future of America. slim on plans of actually getting where he wants to go. Mostly seemed more like a state of the Union address to me.
