Forums - Politics Discussion - DNC: Anyone watching? Thoughts? (Please keep it civil)

So the DNC just began yesterday September 4th and there were a number of different speakers. The prime time speakers included Mayor of San Antonio Texas,  Julian Castro and first lady Michelle Obama. there were other speakers throughout the day from the Democratic party including Senate majority leader Harry Reid, Secretary of health and Human services Kathleen Sebelius, Former Governor of Ohio Ted Strickland to name a few.

The sunday before the convention as well as monday many prominent democrats seemed to struggle with the question posed to them by media personell, "are we better off than we were four years ago?" there were many varying answers. Governor OMalley initially said, "No but thats not the question of this election." David Axelrod seemed to dodge the question, and deputy campaign manager for Obama Stephanie Cutter on Monday answered "Absolutely." to the question.

Also there has been some controversy surrounding the democrat's party platform for 2012. In the previous years the democrats included the word "God" within their platform as well as pro Israel language relating to Jerusalem being the capital. For the first time this year the platform left out both of those. This drew questions from some media outlets. The Party leaders held a vote today at the convention and put the measures up to a "I" or "no" to be added back into the party platform. during this vote there were many on both sides casting their opinions. They reportedly held the vote 3 different times and each time it was hotly contested on both sides eventually villaraigosa the head of the DNC declaired in the opinion of the chair that it passed. Thus the word "God" and the pro Isreal language was added back into the platform. While doing so many boos could audibly be heard in the convention hall.

A 2/3rds majority vote is needed to amend the party platform. From the video it dosn't sound like at least 2/3rds of the party delegates agreed but the DNC Chair still declaired it passed...

The only thing worth watching during these conventions is The Daily Show.

We belong to the government

Sandra Fluke is absolutely vile. She has a bright future in the Democratic Party.

(And she overemphasizes every word. Because she thinks it makes her sound profound.)

So far its been awful

*runs away crying*

Clinton remains the most perfect politician I've ever seen. At least when he wants to be. He mailed it in when he came here to stump for my former congressman and kinda sucked. But when he's on his game, he really is incredible if you turn off your brain.

Yep, took a lot to get him on board though.

It was a good excuse to kick Biden out of a prime spot though.

Did it? I didn't hear anything about how they wrangled him. I just figured he did it because he enjoys doing it and he hates Obama after all that shit in the 2008 primary and enjoyed having him in his debt (not to mention making him wait behind that curtain while he went over time) and that he's tired of how people fawn all over that stiff Barry and he wanted to remind them of what it was like when the president had real charisma and that it was its own reward.

Plus if he refused it would alienate the party and harm the chances of Hillary ever being president. I know she's rapidly aging and all, but I still think she still has designs on being the first prez of the ladyfolk persuasion even if she claims otherwise.

And her ditching the Sec of State job (only valid if Obama is re-elected) would be on point to help her with that, since it's the more time-consuming cabinet position so she wouldn't have time to jockey for position in the party.

Oddly i haven't been watching. I have no interest in seeing the party rally, nothing really going on there but a vanity show.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
