I agree, but it is best to be selective.  I have re-purchased a few where I thought it would be worth it... Alien trilogy, Close Encounters directors cut and others.  Of course if I buy a new movie now (I dont often) then it is always a blu-ray.

I'm the same. I don't buy many movies, but when I do it's blu-ray.

I do re-buy movies on blu-ray that I already have on DVD, but it's usually ones that have been remastered very well and have tonnes of extra content. My Step-Dad got the James Bond DVD box set 5 months ago but I'm already considering buying the blu-ray box set because of the sheer quality and effort being put into it.

I own 22 Blu-ray movies, thanks to 2012! :P

You bought twenty-two copies of 2012? I mean...it was interesting, but twenty-two copies just seems excessive imo. I personally limit the amount of purchases of a single title to around 20 or 21 If its really good. But 22?! That's extreme!

OT: I have zero Blu Rays. I obtain my movies via the internet.

I dont appreciate quality?  How wrong you are, you dont know me, you couldnt be MORE wrong. The cars I drive, the things I own and my last tell a very different story. But I won't be roughed by manufacturers peddling their wares.

Blu ray version of a movie such as....say "the big lebowski" doesn't improve the movie or the experience one iota. Constantly rebuying many older movies in new formats in the future will be  folly and frankly a con by the manufacturers.

There are some poor Blu-Rays but you should see a big difference with the majority of them. There are some specific ones that have been remastered very well and look absolutely amazing, like Saving Private Ryan. Just check reviews online if you're concerned about the quality.

I don't exactly see how rebuying older movies in newer formats is a "con".

Yous should check out Blu-Ray.com they post reviews of all the blu rays (often a week or 2 before the new ones even come out) and they rate the Audio,Picture quality and speical features out of 5 stars. Just type a movie into the search bar and check the ratings

Also i thought the Alien trilogy was worth the blu upgrade? you gotta remember that shits 30 years old, theres only so much they can do

I have one of my favorite Horror movie(The Thing), I got it as a gift after I got my PS3. The picture quality is the same as my DVD and it has less special features. After that experience I am off buying Blu until they stop making movies on DVD.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Yup blu-ray.com is very good for blu-ray reviews.
There are plenty of older movies that benefit really well from a HD remaster. 2001 looks stunning on blu-ray. The pace of that movie is perfect to let your eyes wander over all the details. I just checked the review, well this explains it "First, a few technical notes: 2001: A Space Odyssey was filmed in 70mm in the 2.2:1 aspect ratio." No wonder it looks so good. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/2001-A-Space-Odyssey-Blu-ray/511/
One of the worst looking blu-rays I have is actually from 2007, 28 days later. It all depends on how the movie is made. Just check blu-ray.com before buying, their reviews are usually up at least a week before the movie releases.

Well their not all mine a lot belong to my younger brother but currently there are 39 Blu-Rays in my house which is a decent number but I also have 300+ DVD's.

The Thing is one of the worst Blu-Ray's out their they did a very poor job with it.  I have one similar to that Rocky the picture quality is only slightly better then the DVD and it has zero special features besides theatrical trailers.  The DVD I have of Rock which is the first Special Edition is packed with special features.  One of the best Blu-ray's I own so far is 3:10 to Yuma (2007) the picture quality is excellent and it is packed with extra feautures some of which are only on the Blu-Ray version it also has a great menu which a lot of Blu-Ray's don't have overall most DVD's still have better menu's then most Blu-Ray movies.

I prefer the blu-ray menus that nicely pop up while the movie keeps playing. On DVD you always have to exit the movie first. They are pretty bare bones since all the extras are usually on a 2nd disc. Fine by me, I rather have the best picture quality available then the movie having to share it with the extras.

Best looking animation on blu-ray for me are Ratatoeille, Rango, Puss in Boots, Coraline, Princess and the frog.
Best looking movie upgrades: 2001, Blade runner, The shining, Pulp fiction
Best looking modern movies: No country for old men, The fall, The tree of life, 3:10 to Yuma, There will be blood, Star trek, Tron legacy, Avatar, Apocalypto
Best looking documentary: Life
