I agree, but it is best to be selective.  I have re-purchased a few where I thought it would be worth it... Alien trilogy, Close Encounters directors cut and others.  Of course if I buy a new movie now (I dont often) then it is always a blu-ray.

Yous should check out Blu-Ray.com they post reviews of all the blu rays (often a week or 2 before the new ones even come out) and they rate the Audio,Picture quality and speical features out of 5 stars. Just type a movie into the search bar and check the ratings

Also i thought the Alien trilogy was worth the blu upgrade? you gotta remember that shits 30 years old, theres only so much they can do

Yup blu-ray.com is very good for blu-ray reviews.
There are plenty of older movies that benefit really well from a HD remaster. 2001 looks stunning on blu-ray. The pace of that movie is perfect to let your eyes wander over all the details. I just checked the review, well this explains it "First, a few technical notes: 2001: A Space Odyssey was filmed in 70mm in the 2.2:1 aspect ratio." No wonder it looks so good. http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/2001-A-Space-Odyssey-Blu-ray/511/
One of the worst looking blu-rays I have is actually from 2007, 28 days later. It all depends on how the movie is made. Just check blu-ray.com before buying, their reviews are usually up at least a week before the movie releases.
