Forums - Gaming - Why Do You Loathe Apple Anyway? Apple Hate is TOTALLY Out of Control!

Overpriced and underpowered products which are difficult to use and quite useless once the novelty wears off. I also hate the popularity of their products amongst spoilt kids too, most of you probably saw the facebook posts at Christmas about Apple products, I don't want to be associated with people like that.

I don't know much about Apple as a business, but I don't like who they sue and why.

Totally agree. If I but an Apple product it's because I like how they function not because I'm brainwashed and stupid. That's what most people here think anyway.

Pretty sure if Android would be the leader everyone would hate them.

Well, Android holds the most marketshare. For a long time now.

I don't hate Apple at all, but what gets me is people who say they dislike people who buy Apple products or go out and label people who buy iPhones to be dumb or egomaniacs. How does it make you dumb to buy an iPhone but not dumb to buy an Android for the same price and full of bloatware that requires you to void your warranty to remove it?

I am of the belief that people don't think before they complain about Apple and their products.

Why Android is the market leader and still doesn't get the negative attention is because it is an open platform ...

If Samsung grows into being an abusive monopoly that charges excessive amounts of money for their products people can still buy products from countless other vendors that still run the android OS; and therefore people become upset with Samsung not Android.

If the different vendors were smart they would also focus on specific market segments and create the best device and distribution for that segment. Sony/Ericsson could produce a gaming phone that merges the PS-Vita with a smartphone/tablet, RIM could focus on high security and business applications, Samsung could focus on high-end consumer products, Nokia could focus on entry level devices, and so on; and the net result is a platform that can fit anyone's price range and/or technical demands.

Compare and contrast that with Apple who designs their devices for image conscience high end users and then sues anyone who dares make a device that has anything in common with their devices.

Same as it ever was. It's the same tribalism we see repeated in politics, religion, sports, and every other sphere. People need an "other" to despise to assure themselves that their group (and by association. themselves) are righteous and true.

For many people, Apple was that "other" in the 90s when Microsoft conquered the PC market, and it's only gotten worse as Apple garners more popularity and success. How can Apple keep earning more money and loyal customers when they're so evil/wrong/greedy/stupid/deceptive? The tribal can only reconcile this trend by twisting new layers of cognitive dissonance and hatred around his psyche.

I don't mean to say that you cannot dislike Apple products without being a victim of your own psychology. All products embody certain values to the exclusion of other values. But it's pretty easy to tell the difference between somebody who doesn't find Apple products to his taste and somebody with an emotional investment in despising all things fruity.

Android is the leader... -__-

I worded my post wrong. Would me more like "Pretty sure if Android had Apple's revenue".

Overpriced: so 2007.

Patent trolls: lots of big companies are patent trolls, you probably bought a product or two from a patent troll.

Shitty products: just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean everyone else did. Giving how they've grown as a company in the recent years it must be an indicator that the satisfaction rate is high, so it's probably just you and your "friends" who were unlucky.

Annoying Marketing: Looking at their financials, it's working. They are either a bunch of geniuses or people are just plain stupid. Both ways you really can't blame apple.

iTunes: You have my full agreement here, I still use it for music though but snycing is just so not 2012.

iPhone:

-Screen size: again, I agree, I am totally satisfied with it personally.
-Camera: Still one of the best in the market.
-Outdated UI: it IS outdated, especially when you compare it to the new windows, but you've been hating for years and windows mobile is relatively new. Stop coming up with excuses.

iPad: It's fantastic.

The fans are annoying: I find you amusing.

I also bought a 10 dollars app recently by mistake and contacted the support directly, they gave me a refund, so I feel obliged to do some marketing for them

If you bought a product from them, they aren't a patent troll. That's the clever bit. Patent trolls don't make products, so they can never be sued for infringement themselves, taking cross-licensing off the table as a settlement option. The troll just sits under the bridge and waits for a company to take the financial risk of developing and marketing a product, then collects its toll.

Apple really isn't a patent troll, because they actually make products. Neither is the highly litigious Motorola, who was threatening to sue other Android manufacturers before they were acquired. I often wonder if Google bought Motorola to protect Android from Apple and Microsoft, or to protect Android from Motorola.

Probably all of the above.

Enormous gap between the average pay of employees and the CEO... share the love to the people that make and sell the products!!

Simply HATE it. One of the reasons is how they market their products. It's like they were made for the elite in the first place. That's what downplays them the most. Now having sued Samsung who were better in promoting their products has seriously put it Out of Control.

Hate is a strong word, but I do dislike some of their business practices and their products are definitely not for me. I was tempted to buy a Mac a few years ago, but considering I'm a PC gamer, it seemed silly to spend all that money on what is essentially a good but gimmicky OS when I could build a superior PC with a stable operating system for half the price. Oh, and I play all my games on superior hardware without having to dual boot Windows.

As for the iPhone, my girlfriend has one and my brother-in-law who always has to have the latest smart phone had one. The amount of times he's called me up to sort out iTunes for him... everyone saying it's crap are right.

As for their business practices:

Recently, they sued a rival company over patents that shouldn't have been granted. Every big tech company has ridiculous patents, but to actually act on these ridiculous patents is damaging for consumers.

They also make claims of invention, but don't actually invent most of the tech that they sell. They put together tech and sell it in a user friendly package.

Their marketing, whilst actually very clever and well done, comes close to crossing the line to falsehood. For one thing, they passively pushed the myth that MacOS couldn't catch viruses (I don't believe they ever outright said Macs didn't have viruses... but just look at the PC vs Mac ads). Whilst there are far less viruses than for PC, you should still use anti-virus software.

They overcharge for their products. This is predominantly because their marketing is so good they can inflate their prices. See my Mac vs PC argument above for instance.

In my experience, some staunch Apple fans tend to aggravate the matter with false information or trying to push opinion as fact. However, being on VGChartz, a lot of people can be that way about their preferred company
