I think Nintendo would probably take a route like this when developing their online structure

The Miiverse idea is a really neat way of subtly promoting other games and making players feel like they're in a community, I think it may actually be the best idea out of everything they've come up with for Wii U.

That said, a lot of this is execution, and Nintendo often can talk for hours about how they're going to do tremendous things (ie: the new eShop), but they often don't follow through with concrete execution (ie: the eShop on the 3DS still sucks compared to iTunes or XBLA or PSN).

I don't really see Miiverse like Facebook though. It's more like a moderated Twitter. 

I doubt it's going to have the "coolness" factor like Facebook. Just don't see very many teenagers wanting to use a service like Miiverse.

Not in and of itself, but if Miiverse can enhance the Nintendo gaming experience, more the better.

This is precisely what I thought when Miiverse was announced. I thought it was brilliant, as more people purchase the WiiU its online service will become more popular and more people will want to join it. This is where the potential becomes unlimited, the WiiU just needs system sellers, which it has plenty of at launch.

Social network does not equate to Facebook. Social networks are not defined by Facebook. Nintendo wants to make a gaming social network, not a gaming version of Facebook.

I've used home quite a few times. That wouldn't be how I would describe and this doesn't look anything like it.

how would you describe home differently?

sure the avatars don't congregate around icons, i'd change that, but otherwise it seems about the same to me
