Why do people bring this up? If I had started the series when it was exclusive to NIN that is a possibility. Yet I didn't, like most of the series fans they started on PS and FF has become synonamous with the brand due to it's unhindered success on it. At least when SS made the jump from NIN to PS it was to EXPAND what was capable of being done with the game. FF would have been a NIN exclusive today if they had the courage to go with CD instead of cartridge, which is the only reason SS jumped ship.
This time around its not a full fledge jump, rather SE putting one foot in both camps and being split in two in the process.
For instance, if FF Versus XIII was to go multiplatform with WiiU(in hopes it can handle how much they are cramming on BluRay) with it being equal or a bit stronger than current gen, I would not care. There would be no fear of the original or potential product being downgraded. Same with PC releases.

Whether you are a bunch of other people started it with SONY is irrelevant, it just tickles me that your upset despite the fact that FF actual didnt start on Sony systems, but hey you got a point on expansion and thats what SE tried to do, it failed but that had more to do with the quality of the game, i refuse to believe people are that pathetic in general that they didnt support FF13 as much as the last ones because it was on 360, same goes for everyone of those games you mentioned, they all took a hit in quality, now whether it was because they went multiplat is up for discussion

But that is what I am saying, Multiplatform development makes everything stretched to fit the lowest common denominator. A multiplat game can only be as powerful as the weakest console it is on, this is fact. Yet many are closing their eyes to see what this is doing to games this gen. Dev teams can only be so big working on a single title. This is why many MP games on PS3 suffer, most of the devs are working on 360(their favored fanbase) which leaves a few working on PS3, leaving us with a gimped product ( I see u Skyrim). You rarely see this with an exclusive as they focus on one console and put all effort into making it work right. Things that frequently arise from MP development...
- loss of vision for over all series (DMC, FF)
- loss of certain level of content (DMC, FF,GTA)
- Bastardization in effort to appeal to wider audiance (DMC,FF,Bioshock,Star Ocean)
MP almost always equals lower quality than Exclusive counterparts. Exclusive's whole purpose is to show what a console can do and use it to the fullest. A MP game's only purpose is to reach the largest userbase as possible in order to maximize profit. Yet I am failing to see MP games do even that. VGChartz proves this.According to VGChartz...
Demon's Souls, a PS3 exclusive sold = 1.63million
Dark Souls, the MP sequel is 1.14 on PS3 + 0.49 on 360 = 1.63million
Basically the game could have stayed exclusive without consequence. Why is this? Because....
userbase=/=fanbase
Just because you put a game on every platform imaginable doesn't mean it will magically sell gangbusters. It can only do as good as it's fanbase it has access to. Meaning majority Soul fans are on PS3, thats where it started, I imagine the other percentage are still old fans that simply picked it up on another platform. It never actually sold to new mysterious people( some yes but majority are old fans) just because it was now available on 360, at least not enough warrenting the time and effort it takes to make 2 versions of a game. MP development still costs companies money that I do see them getting their return on (minus those that MS moneyhatted to go MP in the first place).
How did this crap even get started? Because "certain" companies used the fear of not being able to sell enough games to cover cost as reason to go MP(although now proven to be false usually). It is just another way companies manipulated the market to suit their own needs and the more consumer's believe it the more off a self fullfilling prophecy it becomes....
-Multiplatform Development is the way to go.
-Western Developers are more talented/better than Japanese Devs.
-Handheld market is dying, being taken over by Phones. Doom 3DS/Vita!
Multiplatform games have been a self fullfilling prophecy/scare tactic that has ruined most franchises this gen. I just missed the time where each console had their exclusives and you would choose from that, not choosing from which one has a higher framerate of an overall lesser product anyway. Next gen needs to bring back PS2 era success or the entire industry might impload upon itself.
