Fanbases are fragile, fickle, and usually do not accept drastic change. A game that has been Exclusive for decades going Multiplatform...........that is a drastic change. And IMO, a highly unwarranted one.
-Final Fantasy XIII series is the worst offender of this universally. I will never forgive SE for ruining everything I loved about FF in just one game(followed by a ho-hum sequel). Many things that went wrong with this title can be attributed to SE's decision to put it on 360. For instance the removal of "a game's worth of content(aka FFXIII-2)" from XIII because they could not fit all the content on the several DVDs the game already needed on 360 along with the CG they needed for the story.
-Or the fact the game was delayed several times already, only to be delayed yet again after 360 announcement(and Yes I know this due to SE's own comments on game progress, the game was finished and ready to go but dev added 6 months more to make adjustments for 360 version because it had to release simultaneously......even tho several other titles from SE screwed PS3 versions earlier IE: Star Ocean and Last Remnant).
-The blatent bastardization of the series in effort to appeal to western audience(that the 360 supposedly had). Game was advertised as a 360 exlcusive in america with only 360 logo popping up in commercials.
-And the simple fact that they used FFXIII to dis a long standing ally who had saved them multiple times at one of the most important gaming events of the year. Playstation being my favorite console of choice, it felt like a slap in my face too.
FFXIII is just an example. The reason behind my hatred of this trend is that I am a firm believer that Exclusives are the games that push the envelope. They are the only games that really can because when you spread yourself overly thin you get a product that has less merit. Most of my fav games are exclusive IPS (Uncharted,Killzone,LBP,etc) and their innovations would have been surely gimped if they were MP games, simply due to the way they work. Think of the majority of MP games....they usually lack soul(COD, Movie IP games, Guitar Hero, Sports titles) and that is because they never had a definitive vision that comes with exclusivity.
