It's not hard to understand why Wii U has it's doubters. 1) 360/PS3 will still give comparable experiences that narrow the gap the original Wii once had. 2) The main attraction, tablet controller, is already being emulated by MS and could be seen as a me too product by the consumers thanks to iPads. 3) The name itself doesn't inspire much confidence. Wii U doesn't carry the same cool factor of a sequel console the way SNES or Xbox 360 had.The Wii brand might've lost it's strength and could push people away who didn't care for the previous Wii experience. 4) No real big hitters. The Wii launch line-up seemed way better. Zelda really lead that line-up and the packed in game was a classic. I don't get the same vibe with Nintendoland. It looks like a cheap version of Mario Party or something.

I'm pretty surprised people think he's an asshole for saying this too when he realizes that he could be wrong and that he's just got a bad feeling. In fact, he'd be more than happy to be wrong it appears.

I was with you until the last part. Wii had a better line up?? Really?? Here we are getting Pikmin3(not really into that, but some people are) Mario (not into that but lots of people are) Wii U fit(same as Mario), in addition to 3rd party games that will actually be at the very least be the same on the other versions, something you could never say for Wii.  Zelda? That was a port of a GC game, hell most of launch line up was ports of last gen games, with some motion control added.

If we were talking Super Mario Galaxy 3, I'd agree, but there doesn't seem to be much excitement behind the launch Mario game. Is Pikmin 3 guaranteed to be out at launch? I didn't know that, and while it helps, it's hardly Nintendo's biggest and most memorable franchise. Especially one that's never even gotten past the 2 million mark. Wii U Fit? Seriously? That has more competition than ever across three other consoles (including the original Wii) and I just don't see a fitness game being a strong launch title in a time where most of the customers are core gamers.  Also, call me crazy, but saying the third party games will be the same on the other console doesn't exactly sound too exciting.

The Wii simply had more exclusives to be excited about.Red Steel, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Wii Sports, and while the games didn't perform up to par with their regular controller counterpart, people were excited by the idea of controlling games in a whole new way. The line-up was simply more attractive at first glance, the motion controls were fresh, and there really wasn't anyone else that had a similar product to Nintendo at the time. Don't forget that Wii U is a tablet console. That's its big selling point. Comparisons will be be made to all of the tablets out there, especially the iPad, and it doesn't help that MS is packing out the smartglass tablet features. Wii U looks more like a "Me Too" than a innovative console.

Have you guys ever listened to him talking? It's... strange.

Yeah, he sounds like a robot with a Sony chip in his brain. I would likto rip open his skull just to prove it right.

Sessler plays all games and is far from a Sony fanboy. People in the industry either attack or gush over Sony because either their financials or being the only company to continue having constant new IP's. Sessler just calls it how he sees it. Theres far more biased people out there. Sessler is definitely a weird one though, but very respected from fans. He was the one and only reason to watch XPlay.

Ok i can see how the WIi had more exclusives but lets be real how well did those turn out?? ANd were people really excited about playing old ports of PS2 games with tacked on motion controls?? judging by the sales and reception of some of those games (RE4 notwithstanding) im gonna say no.

ME3 we know thats quality, Batman we know thats gonna be good, and they are not that old (Batman kinda is) not to mention unlike the Wii they will be getting multiplats, that wont be horrible comparted to the others.  Ill admit i was more stoked for Wii than I am for Wii U, but in hindsight. The launch wasnt that great, I care about good games, I dont care what appeals to who, and im seeing a bit more appeal in the Wii u lineup than the Wii one

Adam Sessler is one of those guys that dislikes anything that is released by Nintendo and likes anything that has blood in it so it's hard to take him seriously.

I never paid too much attention to him, but i thought he had a better reputation than that? One of the more balanced journalists who wasn't an industry tool and who was willing to give Nintendo a fair shake.

Same here. He was always a better, more descript reviewers.

Hearing something like this from him is almost unbelievable. Its as if he has lost his mind in time out of the spotlight when he left G4. It could just be something his current employer paid him to say. I hope its the latter.

Maybe I was just watching him at the wrong times on G4.  He always seemed pretty biased to me, but I will admit that he was better than Morgan Webb and the others.

To be honest, a spring 2013 release would not be bad.

Nintendo could avoid direct competition with Halo 4 and the new PS3 model.

Also It would give more time for developers to finish unannounced projects for Wii U.

They might as well just can the product if they're going to do that and go back to the drawing board.

Really Wii U probably needed to be out in fall 2011 ... Nintendo just let the Wii wither and die the last year, basically they just left their whole console division out to hang.

Basically a wasted year just trying to kick start the 3DS.

The entire transition from DS/Wii to 3DS/Wii U has been poorly executed. They needed to get both the 3DS and Wii U going earlier on.

You are right about the transition from DS/Wii to 3DS/WiiU being poorly executed.

WiiU really should have been released during fall 2011, But I'm sure Nintendo wasn't expecting Wii sales to fall so badly in 2011.

What exactly were they expecting? For basically almost two calendar years (2011 and most of 2012) they've released nothing notable for the Wii except Zelda: Skyward Sword.

I was being kind when I referred to the transition from Wii to Wii U as being "poorly executed".

What's worse is they botched the 3DS launch on top of that, so it's not like you can even say "well at least they ignored the Wii to get the 3DS done right".

They did expect the Wii sales to fall. The Wii was created to gather in casuals which generally assumes high sales/ short usability timing and quick diminishing interest. Thats where they succeeded which is exactly why the Kinect is helping Microsoft but after the third year will eventually fail them unless they hold buyer interest (which I doubt will last). What will people use the Kinect for next year? We'll have to find out soon.

Nintendo is going to have to change their marketing strategies for the Wii U because it's being marketed to the core with games that have already been spoken for and purchased to the brim months ago. The sales will not be stellar, but first party might surprise because we know their core will follow them wherever they go.
