Incentives for gamers are incentives for sales, they are the ones buying after all. The question is to what effect will it have.
You seem to be confusing the issue by linking cost to develop a port on Vita with the cross buy feature. Developers already port their games and cross buy is not part of their decision to port in the first place, it's to acces a different install base and to make their game more accessible to consumers. Adding crossbuy is another subject, no one is using cross buy as an incentive to pot but as an feature for existing or future ports. The disincentive is loosing people who buy both, but that demographic is severally limited so this list of incentives provides an argument as to why doing cross buy could yeild greater ROI while not eliminating the ROI used to justify porting which is to access the user base that only owns one console.

@bold. I know that, I'm not retarded. I'm just not convinced there is enough demand to attract considerable sales, especially sales that would sell HW like you mentioned.

Yes, now that I understand that it costs nothing, I understand what you mean. But how is it possible, how does it not cost anything, is the Vita truly 100% compatible with the PS3? Is it streamed? I am confused.

Yeah, it would be nice to know the demand but we will have to wait and see. For developers though, this is pretty low risk.

I'm not saying it doesn't cost to port, it does, but it is pretty easy so pretty cheap. Cross buy is an additional feature developers could tack on that won't lose them sales but might attract customers. Developers are porting games to Vita anyway, they've decided the costs to port are cheap enough to do it. Not all developers will or want to lose even a small amount of time by porting a game so they won't. A recent article mentioned that PS4 will have a developing environment similar to PC so similar to Vita, meaning porting is going to get even cheaper which almost makes me think Sony is just planning to have digital PS4 games to run on Vita too like how minis and PS1 classics run on both, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Cross buy is for developers who already ported or are going to port anyway. If they all jump on board people might find themselves wanting a Vita which will be great for everyone. Developers aren't gaining anything by not cross buying their ports and theymight even encourage Vita owners to buy the $60 PS3 game with cross buy instead of the $40 Vita game alone, I guess that's an extra $20 from someone who originally wanted the Vita version only.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Yep, if it's relatively cheap (almost without cost) to implement I see the value.

The only potential loss of revenue would be if someone was willing to buy both versions, which is pretty much non-existent. Since not every game will be on both systems, cross buy can serve as a purchase incentive and allow cross play to actually be a feasible feature since cross play can only be taken advantage of by those who buy both version, which again is almost non-existent.

Really this is how all game software should be treated. You should be able to buy the game itself and play it on the system of your choice. This is a step in the right direction and I support it 100%. 3rd parties should jump on board.

Pretty much my thoughts.  Lost sales should be very low.  Most people simply aren't going to purchase a game twice.  They might agonize over which system to buy a game for, but there will likely be only be one sale.  On the other hand, for people who own both a Vita and a PS3, cross-play might encourage them to buy a game they might have passed on otherwise.  I think the result would be a net gain in sales.

Also, if I remember correctly, unless you want to add enhanced controls, a game that plays on the PS3 will play on the Vita with very little effort.  If that's the case, then there will be minimal overhead in terms of cost.

This can only be a good thing for the industry and for publishers, as it has the potential to move hardware, which in turn means higher software sales across the board.  I hope it becomes a trend.

Agreed that gamers not  purchase the game twice. but there is one thing people are forgetting.

SPINOFFS, like uncharted, killzone, AC, COD etc... it will impact the sale of these.

Example if I could play the PS3 COD on a vita there be no incentive for me to get the VITA spin off version as most my friends be online on the PS3 version anyway.

For this reason I cannot see big publishers  like Activision, EA taking up this option without some incentive from SONY.

These guys are the kings of milking franchises so they will do whatever it takes to sell more copies of software.

what's a crossbuy. I don't get it. lol

Buy the PS3 version of a game and get the Vita version free.

Yes, because they will earn more money due to the huge sales of the PS3 version of the game, and also PSVITA will sell more because people will get games for free, expanding the userbase for future VITA only titles. Also, If the PSVITA begins to sell a lot, I think Sony will have to give the publishers some share of the sales so they can be more happy :D

Wheres the "some but not all" option? So i can only choose yes. Therese already 3rd party PSN games that do this. Hell cross buy isn't even really that new, It's just making an appearance at retail. Pinball arcade, hustle kings, sound shapes and motorstorm RC are all cross buy. I can see this being standard for PSN games from here out. Well see a lot of small developers doing it. It will bring attention to their game, and might help a person deiced to buy their game in stead of the other guys game that might be similar.

Ya it will work. Why wouldnt it work. It's the next evolution in gaming to take a console game and play it on a handheld anywhere is awesome. If I could play MAG or Killzone 3 , gran turismo 5 on your system then pick up the Vita and play it anywhere wow. I think thats why sony bought Gaikai for this very reason to support crossplay. Times are tough with the economy and I think sony realizes this. It's a great deal if you think about it buy one game for 2 systems thats a great deal. It will give people a bigger reason to buy a Vita. Like imagine madden for crossplay on ps3 and then you haft to go on a trip for the weekend. Grab your Vita and play madden anywhere, now thats cool.Im 38 and think thats cool what about a kid come on. Its one thing psp could not do to the level Vita can.

every PS3 game should be bundle with a PSVITA version of the same game. Considering that porting games is quite easy (I remember MGS4, Yakuza, and Lost planet 2 being demonstrated on the PSVITA, and the developers said that it was really easy to do so), it should be done with every PS3 game.

If that happens, the PS3 version of the game will sell a lot of units, and will make people that only have a PS3 to buy a PSVITA, and people who only have a VITA and not a PS3 to buy a PS3 in order to get 2 versions of the game for the price of 1.

This would make the PS3 and the VITA to sell like crazy, and maybe because of that, Sony would have to give a small share of the earning in order to maintain 3rd party publishers happy.

But is the Vita able to handle PS3 graphics? Even games like Uncharted 3 or The Last of Us?

I'm not sure I understand the tech.
