Forums - Sony - Do you see 3rd parties supporting crossbuy?

Will Sony Crossbuy work?

Yes 52 39.39%

No 74 56.06%

WTFISCROSSBUY 6 4.55%

Total:132

IMO. The whole reason for a game to appear on more than one platform is to further make more sales.

Crossbuy basically is asking 3rd parties to port the game to Vita and then give it away free.

Unless Sony moneyhat, I don't see 3rd parties supporting this.

I don't understand the business incentive of this tech personally. Unless it was a zero-effort service I'd understand, but if it costs to offer, and yields zero ROI, I don't see the feasibility of it.

Well if devs enjoy making money then I see no reason why they would.

well EA and and Activision are a hell no, i dont see campcom, konamy or sega doing it either. 2k and ubisoft would do it i think, and i think it might happen with bioshock infinite, im not predicting it would but im saying i wouldnt be surprised if they announced it

even if the work of portig is minimal is still going to cost, so no unless sony puts a check.

I could see new ips using this as a marketing tool to increase awareness of the new game but other that it really is just a lost revenue stream

If they offer crossbuy as a "Buy one (PS3 ver.) Take one 50% off (Vita ver.), it should work. At least try to earn as much money from crossbuy.

The only potential loss of revenue would be if someone was willing to buy both versions, which is pretty much non-existent. Since not every game will be on both systems, cross buy can serve as a purchase incentive and allow cross play to actually be a feasible feature since cross play can only be taken advantage of by those who buy both version, which again is almost non-existent.

Really this is how all game software should be treated. You should be able to buy the game itself and play it on the system of your choice. This is a step in the right direction and I support it 100%. 3rd parties should jump on board.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Yeah, I agree with this. Steam has cross-buy as well with Portal 2 being on PS3 makes it free on PC. And obviously I believe it works out for Mac/Windows games as well.

Very few people buy both the versions of a particular game, so this will never really affect sales.

It all boils down to how much those 3rd parties will gain for that "free game" they're giving away. If they somehow manage to have profit out of that game then we'll see a lot of 3rd parties doing it. If on the other hand they don't make that much of a profit (if not zero profit) then only Sony's first party games will do this.
