Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Angry Video Game Nerd's "Super Nintendo vs. Sega Genesis"

It was the Super NES for me but I also played on my friend's Megadrive and had a blast with it. That console war thingy never got to me until the PSX / N64 days because we never talked about consoles in my school until we reached a certain age.

Totally random comment: Whenever I see videos of old games I get extremely excited for the Wii U! I'm one of those people who love to multitask when it comes to entertainment: I often play handheld games in front of my TV. The TV helps to get over the boring parts of a game (even the good ones have them!) but I can't play console games while watching TV... well I could but I don't feel like buying a second TV... my girlfriend would kill me... but damn wouldn't that be awesome?!?
...Ok back to my point: I can see myself going on a buying spree once the Wii U hits. I'm so gonna (re-)play all of those NES, SNES, Megadrive, N64 and Gamecube games on Virtual Console and finally purchase the ones I haven't gotten yet. I will finally have the time to play them because I won't need to have the TV for myself to play! Holy Cow!

Goddammit. I know I put enough spaces between those videos!! Either way, you can see them and if I edit the post, there's the possibility there will be no videos.

Click HTML above the post and go into the HTML code.  At the end of a line you want there to be a break, put
in there.  That will act as a line break.

As for my take on which is better, the SNES was.  The Genesis was in the same class as the SNES. But, once developers knew how to properly code the SNES and eliminate slowdown, the only advantage the Genesis had went away.  Still, the Genesis had a good number of cool exclusives and still stands as a favorite of mine.  Heck, I will go as far to say on the Wii Virtual Console, the TurboGrafx16/PC Engine stuff offers the best bang for the buck though (talk about tangent talk here).

Yeah the Americans got one horrible looking console, when the rest of the world got this version.

Awesome video thanks for sharing.

I've played my fair share of SNES and Sega games in the past and I honestly never really thought about which console was better back then. However, I always tended to go towards the SNES over the Sega. Super Mario World, Mega Man 7 and the X series, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy. All of that just makes SNES so much more better for me.

SNES remains my all time favorite console...why? Well, all of my favorite games are on that system. Keep in mind, my top 6 games of all time are:

1 - final Fantasy VI
2 - Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
3 - The Legend of Zelda: a Link to the Past
4 - Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
5 - Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble
6 - Donkey Kong Country

Then on top of that final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, Megaman X, Megaman X-2, Megaman X-3, Super Marioworld, Sim City, Mariokart, and the Super Star Wars series, among many others all in my top 25 list. There are also great SNES games I never played, like Super Metroid, Castlevania IV, Chrono Trigger and Tales of Phantasia. the SNES was my childhood, my first real venture into gaming, and while I had no problem with Sega, it didn't hold a candle to the epicness of SNES.

also, as I look to my left I see my PS3, Wii, Xbox 360...and SNES all hooked up to my TV. Funny thing is, I went from SNES to PS1...not because I wanted to (I really didn't), but because my parents decided that's what we were getting. I was pissed for years until Final Fantasy VII came out and that's when I went officially multiplatform. Looking back at it, I do prefer the PS1...but only for the Final Fantasy games and a few others like Metal Gear Solid. I hated that generation, there were maybe a dozen games from the N64 and PS1 I still play. But I digress, I'm going off track.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

The Angry Video Game Nerd makes some fantastic videos, and this was no exception. Great stuff with lots of laughs.

I was a Genesis kid, and I'm definitely proud of it (He's so right about the Genesis' boxes. In your face Nintendo!). No disrespect to the Super Nintendo, which had some amazing games (and looking back, I can say that it had the better overall library), but nothing on Nintendo's 16-bit system beats the Genesis Sonic the Hedgehog games, especially Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles. Those were truly the greatest, to me at least.

This was awesome. I laughed so hard at his own Genesis commercial. And he was such a fanboy when he was younger!

Brought back memories of me and my best friend when we were in elementary school arguing about which is better.

You never played Super Metroid??

Anyways @D21, thank you so much for sharing, a true return to the past and I liked both parts of the video, it's the first time I got to see that side of James. One of my favorite parts is when he as a kid called the zapper the Power Gun :) I thought all of it was cute. One thing though, I wish he had made a Super Nintendo commercial in the style of the Sega commercials just to show how marketing works, and drive it home.

Aaahh, the good old times, when consoleswars actually were a reason for violence in school.
