Forums - Gaming - Top 10 games on Metacritic this gen, do you agree?

The only one I have a real problem with is GTAIV, it got that high of a score based on nothing other than hype. It wasn't a bad game by any means but it wasn't anything amazing either.

I personally don't think Skyrim should be up there either, but it's still a great game. It suffers from the same problems as every other Bethesda game this gen-- nothing compelling you to actually do the story and you eventually become so powerful that the game loses its fun (and that always happens looooong before the level cap).

I think everything there except GTAIV and The Orange Box deserve to be there (GTA4 is infamously overrated, and Orange Box was an overrated FPS, two overrated expansions to the FPS, a great multiplayer shooter which is now free, and a two-hour long puzzle game).

EDIT: I would replace them with Assassin's Creed II and Arkham City.

I'm getting my knife, stay right here

Your current avatar is far too non-threatening for you to make that threat.

Were it Lin Bei Fong or even Carl, I might be worried.

SHARPENING

I'm not a GTA fan at all. I don't really understand the appeal.

I would like to see Portal 2 up there. It was nearly flawless. Actually, looking at the numbers, Portal 2 has a 95 on the PS3, so it should be listed as tied for 10th place.

From a selfish standpoint, I think Valkyria Chronicles and Borderlands are two of the best games of our generation.

My favorite games this gen were probably Fallout 3/Fallout NV. Take out the worst bugs and I would have given both of them 95+. However, I can understand why points would be deducted.

Now that is just blasphemy! Orange Box was one of the best gaming deals at the time. It was the best FPS of all time, two great expansions to it, a great multiplayer shooter that has been great for years and an innovative puzzle game (took me around 3-4 hours I think).

On the PS3 The Orange Box was the worst thing ever put on a disc. The controls completely ruined it for me. It was one of the first games I bought on the PS3 so it didn't bother me much at first, I stopped playing after beating the first episode and played other games for about a year, after that I went back to it and played episode 2 and realized how horrible it was. The graphcis were horrible, sound was awful (made my speakers crackle, only time it's ever done that was with The orange box), the controls were delayed by almost a full second, so you can imagine what it was like trying to jump from obstacles to obstacle, so frustrating. I didn't even finish episode 2.

I mostly agree, the only ones I disagree are GTA IV; was a good game but HIGHLY overrated, and bioshock; more in line with my personal opinion, it just never got into the game...

It really was a bad port. Thankfully, Valve support of PS3 has gotten better.

I played GTA IV once and I hated it thought 98! no way maybe a 70. I decided to give it a chance and actually pay attention to everything and the second time around it wasn't to bad at all, I liked it, getting the trophies was fun. Still doesn't deserve a 98, but maybe a solid 89.

I'm going to echo pretty everyone else and say GTA shouldn't be there. It's not awful but it's not a 98. That leaves Mario Galaxy 1&2 in their rightful place as the top 2 games of the generation, and then I'd like to see Arkham Asylum come in at the bottom of the list.
