Forums - Sony - Let's find out whether PSASBR is a rip-off or not.

Its a Shameless rip off. Dont get me wrong, most companies take "inspiration" from other titles. Resident Evil/Silent Hill ( although both games have become unique and different in their own way) and even resident evil was a rip of of games that came before it, but the difference is, they at least tried to change the formula and bring something new.

All Stars is a shameless rip off, no doubt about it, and i dont understand why nintendo havent done anything about it.

But i suppose its not the first time Sony have ripped Nintendo off. Playstation move anyone?

http://www.roms4droid.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=422  Link to some blatent rip offs. they are all at it :)

Because Nintendo doesn't own the genre ???

And Move wasn't a rip off, Sony had a motion controller in works since 2002

Once again though. A motion controller, there's leeway as to its functions and how you hold it. For comparison, here's an interesting pic. This does not require an explanation. Sony may have been prototyping, but its final build pulls enough from the Wii as inspiration to call it a rip-off. It's the same thing with PASBR.

I've seen that video before. That's not really what I'd call a controller, but a big ball at the end of a stick, for demoing purposes. The end result could have been shining at any other place than the tip for all we know.

They use similar technology to track down player motion movement  The fact that both design and and technology behind it is similar shows us sony didn't copy anything from nintendo here. You can call a battle royale a rip off and i wouldn't argue with you (altho rip off is usually considered to be much worse than the original product, where battle royale seems its gonna be better quality game here) but motion controller definitely isn't

First off, the prototype you see doesn't have any button, to my knowledge didn't use accelerometers, didn't have a secondary nunchuck controller, and didn't have the same form factor as the final product.  Second of all, companies have tons of prototypes at any given time.

So, Sony had a vague idea that maybe a motion based controller would be a good idea.  They did some research on the idea, couldn't get it to work properly, and quietly threw it in some drawer in their R&D department.

Meanwhile, Nintendo had an idea that a motion controlled peripheral would be a good idea.  They developed several prototypes, continually refining the product.  They came up with a nunchuck attachment to accomodate more traditional games, and they developed software to show off their new hardware.  Then, Nintendo decided to risk their whole financial future on their motion controller.  They bundled it with their newest console, devised an advertising plan, and crossed their fingers, knowing that failure could be absolutely catastrophic.  Luckily, their hard work and planning paid off.  The Wii was a Smash hit, thanks largely in part to the simple but addictive Sports game that was included, and Nintendo overtook both Sony and Microsoft to claim the number one spot in the console market.  They took a huge risk and reaped a huge reward.

Sony saw this success Nintendo was having and thought "oh what do you know.  Motion controls really are a viable idea.  Let's hitch a ride on the bandwagon.  What ever happened to that prototype we abandoned?"  So, Sony took their old prototype, molded it until it looked like a Wiimote, added a nunchuck attachment, made their own sports game, and hoped to see the same success Nintendo saw while taking none of the risk or putting in any work or creativity of their own.  Sony had an incomplete Idea and they used Nintendo's work to flesh it out.

Edit: And btw I disagree with your idea of "similar looking".  The Wii-mote looks like a remote controle.  The protomove looks like a bloated lollipop.

It's say it's inspired by SMB just like Star Wars and the Hidden Fortress. It's not a rip off, it just takes a good concept and uses it as a foundation. But with that said I don't see it selling well. The Nintendo characters are timeless like Disney and have mass appeal. Sony's characters don't fit well together and all have there own niche. Everyone knows who Mario and Donkey Kong are, but Kratos isn't exactly a house hold name. Hardcore Sony fan will buy it, but it won't be the phenomenon that SMB became.

"Nintendo fan for life"

This isn't up for debate unless you're delusional. It's a rip-off, if this isn't I don't know what is.

It wasn't supposed to have any button, it was planned to use motion controls only.

So, Sony had a vague idea that maybe a motion based controller would be a good idea.  They did some research on the idea, couldn't get it to work properly, and quietly threw it in some drawer in their R&D department.

...and you know this how? You hired a spy to work at Sony? For all we know motion controller was still in the works and was never scratched off. I think its just your wishful thinking to appeal your ''EVERYBODY COPIEZ NINTENDO GODZ'' narrative

They took a huge risk and reaped a huge reward.

cool story bro. It has nothing to do with my point tho

Sony saw this success Nintendo was having and thought "oh what do you know.  Motion controls really are a viable idea.  Let's hitch a ride on the bandwagon.Fun fact: sixaxis is also a motion controller.  What ever happened to that prototype we abandoned?" How do you KNOW THEY ABANDONED it?  So, Sony took their old prototype, molded it until it looked like a Wiimote,While all ''remotes'' look similar, Move looks absolutely nothing like Wiimote. Or do you agree Wiimote is a shameless rip off of every TV remote ever made? added a nunchuck attachment which you don't need to use, you can use a normal controller , made their own sports game, they already had one on EyeToy on ps2 and hoped to see the same success Nintendo saw while taking none of the risk or putting in any work or creativity of their own. You mean like when Nintendo didn't have the balls to publish mature games on their systems or use CDs, and once they saw PS1 success they jumped on a wagon ? Sony had an incomplete Idea and they used Nintendo's work to flesh it out.You...you seriously think nintendo was the first with motion controller and that they own the concept ?

Edit: And btw I disagree with your idea of "similar looking".  The Wii-mote looks like a remote controle.  The protomove looks like a bloated lollipop.

I wasn't even comparing it to wiimote. i was comparing sony motion controller from 2004 and move from 2009

Anyway, im done arguing about this, since its highly off topic, i doubt i can change your narrative where Nintendo >>> everyone else in gaming and i already have tons of shit to respond to already
