Forums - Sony - 5 Reasons The PlayStation is Toast

the 3DS sold badly after the launch until the price cut, that at least is true, that was because there were few games just like the vita now, wait for assassins creed, cod and the recently announced vita games to come out. As games like mario 3d land and mario kart 7 really helped the 3ds, the games comming out for vita in the autumn will surely help. it won't just die out like the dreamcast did

I don't think it will die out without a fight from Sony, but my initial point on this was that you can't assume that it will be able to make a "comeback" like the PS3 did ... The Vita is in a much worse position and Sony will probably have to do far more to achieve less from it.

My expectations for the PS-Vita (at this point in time) is that Sony will maintain its price through Christmas, its sales will be awful, third party publishers will call for a price cut in the new year, Sony will slash the price, and at E3 we may see a reimagined PS-Vita.

The Vita is toast. That is all

Let's say it's 2007 shall we?

Remember the PS3 is toast?, yet it's still here as it sells well.

The vita will be here in 5 years still and be just as successful.

You could easily say the same about the 3DS just last year too, but it's selling now

you fail!

But you see, I never said the PS3 was toast. I took no interest in the PS3 until 2011,when I got bored with my Wii. I never said anything about the PS3 until then. I never said 3DS was toast. Maybe I should rephrase my original post.

Vita is toast, until it gets a price drop.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

Q2 2012 Sony financial results

Profit/(Loss) - ($312 million)

Cash - $8.330 billion
Total Assets - $166.215 billion
Debt – $9.943 billion

YES SONY HAS $166 BILLION IN ASSETS THAT'S $40 BILLION MORE THAN MICROSOFT!

You do realize that a large portion of Sony's assets are things like manufacturing facilities, patents, IP, and brands which they can't (realistically) afford to sell and stay in business ... Many of which are going to have unrealistic valuations compared to what they could be sold for on the market.

In movie, videogame and music copyrights alone Sony probably has tens of billions of dollars of assets; but they can only sell something that has a buyer and on the market they would probably only be able to get 1% to 10% of their book value for these assets.

Sony's "assets" mean less than you realize. They have a certain value, but they could not pull in a fraction of that were they to try to sell them.

As of right, Sony's Market Cap is $11.32B Somehow the company as a whole is worth only 7% of it's own assets? Why? Because all of these assets are churning out products that lose money. Will people want to buy factories that produce overpriced TV's? In theory, if they had a true $166 Billion in assets, a company could easily buy them out at that value (MS or apple could do it in cash) and break them up, and sell the pieces... Unfortunately a company like Sony is worth much less than the sum of it's parts.

I don't see the resemblance.

OT: This is no better than that "PS3 is doomed" nonsense from years ago. And no article listing Apple as a threat to mainstream console makers is at all credible.

will the console's go away, no!

but make no mistake about it, the Game console market is being disrupted right now: Not just by Apple, but Samsung also 90 million smartphones sales in one sales Quarter, you d@rn right developer's are going to take notice

once again, i know im going to get disagree's, but im trying to tell  something an it seem's many are not paying attention, to the real problem in the game console market right now. and that it's being disrupted.

forget looking at this only from the gamer's perspective, and look at this from a industry wide perspective in consumer Electronic's.

example:

you know that lil fantastic white box made by Nintendo, its a game console, and today many of the smartphones and Tablet's and Smart TV's all have chipset's that are more robust and more powerful than the Wii!

that my friend is what  many are overlooking.

so even though Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony move on, it still does not take away from the fact right now, every company that makes a :

Smart TV
topset DVD box
streaming entertainment box
smart Phone
and Tablet
iPhone
iPAD
Apple TV
Android powered devices

are all running the same advanced chipset's able to surpass a dedicated game console machine, now that may not mean much to you, and yes the next game machines may be order of magnitude higher spec's than these chipset's are right now.

samsung, sharp, toshiba, vizio, panasonic, oppo, coby, etc name a freaking electronic's topset, box or smart tv maker and you can bet they are going to be making one of these ARM Cortex powered device's.

when every company outside of Nintendo ,Sony or Microsoft can have a game console built right into their hardware that is quite more robust than the Wii , The Market is no longer about just the big three anymore in the gaming space.

ANDROID ICS has game pad support right from the start, Apple iOS device's also get Game pad support.

And one needs to live with it until other options become available,
