It's like you said; it's a different time now. Very few 3rd party titles are exclusive nowadays, which would mean that almost every JRPG would be available on other consoles, which in turn would render an Apple console useless for core gamers since there would be no other core games on it. So I still fail to see the point where an Apple console would damage the hardcore market =)

:) That's not really what I meant by "it's a different time". I meant more about JRPGs not being as dominant and industry-swaying a genre as it was 20-15 years ago.

As for multiplatforming, I don't think we really see that with handhelds just yet, take FFIV as an example. Two completely different takes released at different times for the DS versus the PSP. Also, why would they waste time porting if the game makes so much money already on mobile platforms?

To be perfectly honest I don't know which games have been ported to mobile phones and how well they have done or how well they play. I just don't think JRPG's will be enough to make an Apple console (iPlay?!) popular within the core community. I wouldn't pick it up, that's for sure.

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Sure, but you do realize that Japan has shifted ever so constantly from home console gaming to handheld gaming. The development of JRPGs on tablets could be devastating to dedicated console plats such as the 3DS and the Vita, as well as the home consoles (which would lose marketshare to the handheld space even more rapidly there).

Tablets and iphones arent really impacting consoles folks.

They are however taking a big chunk out of handhelds

Are they really though? Everybody keep saying that, but how come the 3DS is the fastest selling console of any kind ever then? True, it's not as popular in the West as te original DS was - but is it less popular than GBA?

streaming does'nt give me that feeling of collecting something. what if there's a lightning storm and the data get's corrupt. Streaming is good in small doses, but to build a whole collection on it,is just laughable to me.

Yes Iphones really are hurting handhelds. 3DS is doing great but it could be doing even better

I said for years that stuff wasnt true until we started selling i-devices. Now every day I have parents coming into our stores buying Iphones and Ipod Touch just for their kids to play free and cheap games on.

Its very real.

Yep. Took us time to realize it, but it's here.

Apple doesn't need to release a console to cripple the console makers.

What they need is to basically reverse the Wii U setup, by introducing an even cheaper AppleTV + game controller bundled with it for $99.

Then allow the iPhone/iPad/Mac to run the game wirelessly to the TV (instead of the Wii U setup where the console beams the signal to the controller screen).

Now let people buy games from the iTunes store ... stuff like Portal 2, Diablo III, Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, along with the Angry Birds type stuff. I'd be willing to bet a lot of third parties would jump onboard especially as the iPad gets more and more powerful. Very quickly I think you'd have a lot of Square-Enix, Capcom, EA, Activision, etc. content on it.

Most of these aren't playstation specific problems.

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

Why see problems where there could be solutions? Wouldn't it be possible to lure all of these kids into hardcore gaming through iPad/iPhone etc? They start playing kiddy stuff with Apples products, and as they grow up they'll start looking for something else - and wouldn't that be a perfect time to swoop in with... say Mario?!
