Wait...so Sony has lowered their predictions from 16 million Vitas for the year to 12 million? That is ridiculous... 5.4 million vitas by the end of 2012 seems realistic, 12 million is ridiculous. Perhaps i am reading this wrong...

That for their fiscal year ending March 2013 I think.

Nevermind, they were talking about PSP+vita to sell 12 million. That seems achievable. This article is poorly worded...

It honestly has nothing that appeals to someone who wants a handheld. Sure Uncharted is a great game, but it's not a game that the "mainstream" want on their handheld. And I mean by mainstream not as casual gamers, but even the hardcore. Honestly I don't see the appeal of an expensive Vita when I have a PS3.

This of course may change, but definitely needs games, and more specifically, handheld games. Problem is that bar the MH success on the PSP in Japan, nothing has been released on the PSP has had close to that appeal. Sony need to dig deep on this one

Strange, I only have 3 full vita games (Gravity Rush, Uncharted, Hot Shots Golf) and a bunch of PSN games that are perfect on a handheld (Escape Plan, Super Stardust Delta, Alien Blob attacks, Motorstorm RC, Hustle Kings, Plants VS Zombies, Star Drone, Puddle).

I agree that the Vita is pricey and is most likely preventing it from achieving better sales. But to claim that it has no games? Just shows how much you know about the Vita...which is nada...

Oh wait, I forgetz, Vita haz no gaemz!

When this beast releases, the Vita will see new life:

Though it will also release for PSP but I predict Vita dominance in sells.

? I see nothing

You mean you don't see the picture or are you impying that it won't sell?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

A cut of 4m (or 25 %) after only three months must be a new negative record. Granted, it's for two systems combined.

I wonder what this means for a PSV price cut though. The new projection could mean that there will be one, but it could just as well mean that Sony is still confident about the PSV performance without a price cut.

hmmm... a price cut of over 30% after just a few months in the market is more of a doozy.

Not really. Nintendo sold the 3DS at a profit in the beginning and then made a price cut that caused the 3DS to be sold at a loss. Sony sold the PSV at a loss right out of the gate, so they basically made the Nintendo-like price cut pre-emptively. And it still didn't help to achieve an acceptable market performance.

no they didn't. vita isn't selling at a lose.

I said it doesn't have games that appeals to handheld gamers, thus the poor sales. I never said it doesn't have good games, but not everyone is like you. General opinion matters in sales, and I'm strictly talking about how the majority who haven't bought a PSV yet feel.

Sony's gaming unit has been posting losses for the last two quarters which coincides with the PSV launches in America and Europe. Previously, they posted profits for several quarters in a row. It's not hard to see a connection. If it isn't the PSV that drags Sony's gaming unit's financials down, then what is?

You obviously don't know anything about manufacturing/marketing/sales so i'll just let this be as I don't feel like downgrading myself to your level.

Cutting your price by more than 30% just a few months after launch is the king of fail. No matter how you look at it, that move was epic fail to the highest degree.
