Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I've argued with you a few times about Vita's profitability. All the evidence I find, in the worst case scenario, Vita is selling wifi at a loss and 3G at a profit. But it could very well be that wifi is break even or both are selling at a small profit. We've gone through the manufacturing and retail numbers and it supports this. You can't use this information and pin it on Vita, to be honest Vita isn't selling enough to incorporate these level of losses. In addition, Sony said in their quarterly release that part of the reason they did not post higher reveneus was because of lower than expected sales of the Vita, indicating that they are indeed making some profit on the system and overspent this quarter because of their higher expectation of sales.

Do you mean the manufacturing numbers similar to those of the 3DS that would "prove" that the 3DS isn't sold at a loss even though it clearly is?

What hurts Japanese companies the most right now is the strong yen, but even without this factor, Sony's gaming unit would still not profit. And since the PS2, PS3 and PSP are said to be all profitable right now (and that's believable, because the gaming unit posted profits before the PSV launched worldwide), that leaves the PSV as the device that is dragging down Sony's gaming operations.

Bolded: This doesn't indicate that the PSV is sold at a profit. Whether a system is sold at a profit or a loss has no influence on revenue. If it's sold, you get revenue. If it isn't sold, you get no revenue. All that Sony answered with that statement was the question why revenue of their gaming unit was down year over year.

Ah yes, I was mistaken about the revenue. I agree on the Yen and I wonder when the rest of the world will get itself in order and stop bolstering its strength. I still haven't seen strong enough evidence to determine the PSV is sellilng at a loss. There are far too many factors in their expenses in combination with weaker than expected sales on their profitable devices, which may or may not include the Vita. It would be nice if their spreadsheet could be guessed like that but as is you can't conclude that from this information. It's a stretch and a long one.

About those profits before WW PSV launch. Plenty of Vitas sold in the quarter before that and yet there was profit. If I was to use your standard to determine Vita's profitability I would use this as say that it is making a profit. Instead I'm using more reliable data from the cost breakdown to prove my point and there has not been any reasonable data to the contrary.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

People keep saying Vita just needs games.

I couldn't disagree more. It needs a hefty price cut AND games.

Before the 3DS took a desperate price cut, what was the soonest a price cut was received for ANY other system in history?

I really do think Nintendo has damaged the market with that action, never has a console received so much pressure to receive a price cut.  Liturally everyone is waiting for a price cut, why? because alot of people got burned on the 3DS price and they now fully expect the Vita to receieve the same.

If some one can find the second quickest price cut it would be a good comparison.

The announcement of 3DS price cut it the reason of why 3DS got support again

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Xbox in Europe, launched on March 14th for €479, officially reduced to €299 on April 26th. A matter of six weeks.

Do you mean the xbox 360 elite release for 479? I thought that was USD price and then it got a $30 price cut in the following August?

But no one has answered the question - do you think that quick price cut has damaged the view of the industry and people expect a price cut now for the vita?

12m PSP+PSV seems possible, but they will need a great holiday to achieve that figure

Vita's less than one million right now isn't it? That forecast does not include launch numbers!

I find it incredibly hard to believe it'll get to 8 by march next year. Only with a 3DS level price cut. PSP not even with one - and that won't happen anyway.

Vic
my bad
and agree

When I got Mortal Kombat a couple of days ago, I said "Awesome! This is a must have game and it only costs $9.99!" Then, I thought of it and I said, "Shit. This is a must have game and it only costs $9.99." Not a good sign at all.

PSV 800k in 2 months (200k in last month)

PSP 880k in 2 months (200k in last month)

...so 1.6m in 2 months, but only 400k or so in the last month,

This leaves 10.4m to do in 10 months.

That forecast is for shipment numbers, aren't they?

So that means its 1.4 for the first 3 months (Q1) - from their financials, leaving 10.6m for the next 9 months. Or I'm missing something?

EDIT: Beaten
