Forums - Microsoft - DF: First Xbox 3 Devkit leaks, 8 Core Intel CPU, nvidia GPU, More than 8GB RAM

IIRC A Devkit always has higher specs than the final hardware. (you need more ram and more processing power to develop games and you have to use multiple devtools at the same time). So don't expect those specs matched for the future Xbox

hot dang...I'm surprised this leaked before the ps4 stuff 0_0 sony is losing their touch

on a serious note, nvidia bit is surprising. But sounds like a strong piece of hardware for sure. Next E3 is gonna be sweeet

The Nvidia bit makes it bogus.  MS got screwed over big time by Nvidia on the orginal X-Box.  Also backwards compatability is very important so I'm sure they stick with AMD/ATI.

Well maybe they just got a better deal overall from Nvidia...if sony is also going with AMD, I'm sure Nvidia was in a position to be rather, generous.

The way they got scewed over on the original X-Box I don't think that Nvidia can be generous enough I think MS burned that brigde and will never work with them again not when it comes to home consoles anyway.  Plus all other rumored spec leaks has them sticking with AMD/ATI.  Backwards compatability is pretty much a must for almost all 360 owners that are think about buying the next console from MS and that can be easily achived if they stick with AMD/ATI.

You've got that backwards my friend. Nvidia screwed Microsoft, not the other way around. Granted MS signed the contract, but they still got screwed.

The "they" I was refering to in my first sentence is Microsoft.

My mistake Chris, sorry dude.

OT: Sounds very powerful. Imo, that is way too much RAM for a gaming console, heck even an "entertainment hub machine". Not sure where an 8-core Intel CPU is coming from unless, like the source says, it is Atom based. Finally, I think it's possible that Microsoft is working with Nvidia again on the home console front , afterall they are working together on the tablet front.

Multitasking vs 8gb RAm..

Damn....

Yay!!!

like PS2 vs Xbox
and we all remember how that ended up xD
seriously
its pretty clear the gap between the Msoft machine and Nintendo machine is not going to be that big this time....

could you please explain, why this is clear? Here is what we know or is rumored:

Wii U

  • 2 GB RAM
  • IBM Power 710 Express (4 cores) or 3 core version with 3.2GHz (maybe still 4 but with 4th dedicated to OS?)
  • AMD 4000 series

Xbox Durango

  • 6-8 GB RAM (according to this rumor)
  • IBM Power7 with 6 cores @ 3.7GHz (previous rumor) or 8 cores (according to this rumor)
  • AMD HD6550 in APU and/or AMD HD 7670 800MHz
or some other 7XXX GPU in the Steamroller APU.

That seems to be quite a big gap to me?

Wii U Ram-  Unconfirmed

X-Box 720 Ram- Unconfirmed

Wii U-  Power 7 based CPU confirmed.  Core number unconfirmed. Clock speed unconfirmed.

X-Box 720-  According to this rumor it is not an AMD, it's an Nvidia.  So... stick with one rumor at least.  At any rate unconfirmed.

Wii U GPU- Custom AMD.  Otherwise, unconfirmed.

Making any comparisons based on the highly speculative information we have is really just silly at this point.

Rumours are all that we got bud.

Yay!!!

If rumors are all we have, then personally I'd rather wait until there is something more concrete to go on before making unfounded speculations. If you have fun speculating on the rumors, by all means go ahead, but a lot of people seem to be taking these less than half complete rumored specs as gospel.

That shouldn't be hard to see why.

i don't think MS would go back with NVIDIA same as others have said tbh.
i also don't really care about the price of whats in the box.. i just want power and games. POWER AND GAMES! lol

As long as its not too pricey I don't think most people are ready for another $599 anouncement at E3.  If its close to that ($549 and up) or more they better not anounce it at E3.

There's no reason for MS not to work with nvidia. They're businesses, not children who refuse to play together because last time jimmy didn't share the train. Not working with a company out of spite is the wrong way to go.

WiiU is twice as powerful as the Xbox 360.
These specs would be 8 times as powerful as the 360.

So Xbox 3 would be 4 times as powerful as Wii U.

That would be quite a huge gap.

and I LOVE the fact, that Xbox 360 became a benchmark of a systems horsepower.

The WiiU early target specs show it being more around 3x Xbox 360. We don't know the final specs. It could end up 4x for all we know.

Xbox 360 has become a benchmark because the hardware isn't as exotic as PS3's.

This!
The 360 is used as a benchmark cause everyone knows what it can do.The console is maxed out for years now and only Engine tweaking for the Unreal Engine is showing some improvements. But that is thanks to EPIC and others who push that Engine.
The PS3 on the other side still hasn't reached its limit or is rather pushed all the time a little bit more...
We all thought Uncharted 3 will be the most beautiful game we will see in this Gen - There is no doubt any 360 game ever could reach those graphics...It isn't possible(please don't say Halo 4 - Still not in the same league).
And what did Digital Foundry say a few days ago? - The Last of Us is DESTROYING Uncharted 3 and is pushing so hard beyond it that it is completely stupid.
As long as Naughty Dog isn't saying they are done with the PS3 we don't know what the weird Architecture of that console is capable of.

And Devkits are always a lot stronger than the real consoles.
They need the power to test stuff out and find the point to still maintain a lot of power for the cheapest price possible.
