So... Nintendo didn't moneyhat Capcom because they didn't need to since Capcom already decided to not make money with a Monster Hunter on Playstation Vita?

Seems legit.

Because they can make more money with it on 3DS?

Not true. They would obviously earn even more money by promoting both consoles. Heck, some Monster Hunter fans would even buy both versions.

How many DS/Vita multiplatform games exist?

I mean... I could be wrong... but I don't believe that's a common trend is it?

It's not like the home consoles.

I like how people think the only option is for it to be exclusive to one system.

A multiplatform Monster Hunter would do better than a singe platform one. Both the Vita and 3DS are capable of running MonHun. It would make Capcom more money to put it on both systems. Why release on one system?

"Faith?" Lol.

And I realise there was no MonHun on DS (right?)...this is simply because the DS couldn't run a high quality MonHun game.

That said, it is clear that Capcom's Vita support is shit. But an upscaled port of a 3DS MonHun would be more than profitable enough, especially considering the series' audience almost wholly resided on the PSP - and one assumes that would be the same audience that go on to own Vitas.

It is clear that Nintendo approached them with some sort of deal.

I agree mostly. Only thing: the less power of the DS probably wasn't the problem, but the missing analog input.

On the thread topic though, i dont think Nintendo money hated capcom for anything. Why did capcom screw Sony over? Because Sony screwed capcom over. Monster hunter is an important element on capcoms worldwide strategy, revealed by svenson on the capcom unity forums. He also said that capcom couldnt bring Portable 3rd and portable 3rd HD to the west because Sony refused to update their firmware for ad-hoc play in the west, to the same one they had in Japan. This ended up with capcom not releasing the games in the west.

MHtri worked with nintendo, so there you go. Add 2 with 2 and its perfectly obvious why nintendo didnt need to lure capcom away, sony themselves did that.

I never knew this, good read.

Having played (and currently owning) both Portable 3rd and 3G, I can say that I disagree entirely with your sources, Portable 3rd is a lot harder than 3G (but neither are as hard as freedom unite imo). Dont get too caught up in the 'g' rank quest addition, they were an addition for MHFU as an expansion rank to the usual quests, in this (freedom unite) they were almost impossible. As 3g's monsters are comparitively easier, its G rank is also.

Plus 3G lacks the more technical weapons, mainly the bow, hunting horn and gunlance. It could just be that I'm a gunlance and hunting horn user mainly (both considered two of the most technical weapon trees) but portable 3rd was leagues more difficult than 3G, and I have friends in Japan (i've lived and worked there for quite a long time previously, hence why I even still like games at all) who think portable 3rd is even harder than Freedom Unite (I disagree, but thats their opinion).

Hold on, you've played and own MH3G, but you didn't know that it has all the same 12 weapon classes as MHP3rd?  This baffles me.

I can't comment on the difficulty level.  I've only played the demo of MH3G in Bic Camera, and that was before I started on MHP3rd.

You're right, didn't even think of that.

I actually should have been more specific, as MHportable 3rd HD was actually in development and had to be cancelled because of Sony refusing to update that ad-hoc firmware. Svensson said that he was personally disappointed the game didnt get released.

It's pretty obvious they did seeing how well Monster Hunter did on the PSP, or they just hate SONY. Both are very likely.

How it did on the PSP could have been better with the DS's userbase, dont forget cheaper, could have been a global release since the DS actually did well globally, and why would they release it on the Vita?

Is there anything that can back that up? Plus, a PSP Monster Hunter would have been very difficult to make on the DS. I don't remember the DS being significantly cheaper than the PSP either and recently it has actually been more expensive (in the UK). Are you also implying that the PSP was a failure outside of Japan? It doesn't really matter, because I honestly don't believe Monster Hunter will take off in the West.

"Why would they release it on Vita"?

Why would they release it on the 3DS?

I wasn't talking about ports. That way very few would buy both versions.

Yeah, but you gotta keep in mind.  MH's main region is Japan.

There are 33 Million Nintendo DS in Japan.

19 Million PSPs.

and 127 million people in the country.

I imagine there was quite a lot of overlap in DS/PSP owership.

No doubt when first developed it was thought 3DS would hit DS numbers, so a PSP version wouldn't make much sense in that scenario.
